We got engaged at Easter. I can understand a Christmas engagement. I think it's because you can have quality time together and concentrate on a romantic moment.

Unfortunately Christmas can also lead to break ups in relationships, for much the same reasons, e.g. lots of time together can also show up the cracks in a relationship. I knew someone who worked as a wedding co-ordinator and she said there were usually a few cancellations after the New Year holiday.

I think a christmas engagement would be very romantic. I quite like the idea.
  • Each to their own but personally I wouldn't be that keen on a Christmas proposal. Id prefer a moment that is more private and special in it's own right...if that makes sense.
  • I got engaged on Christmas day 2008... I would rather he'd done it at another time to be totally honest.

I spent the whole day trying to hide my ring (and subsequent engagement) waiting for a "formal announcement" which never came :(

It seemed like a bit of a cop out for a Christmas pressie - mind you, we still havent set another date after having to postpone my 10-10-10 wedding, so he couldnt really have been that bothered about it!
  • I think getting engaged on christmas day is lovely! What better was to celebrate when all the family are around. I dont think it distracts from christmas, I think it adds to it - christmas is about families being together, and two people getting engaged only brings them closer. Good luck to them.

I have to say that it's something I always 'expect' to see come Christmas on the usual networking sites, and I wasn't disappointed this year! Unfortunately I also know of two engagements that took place on xmas day purely because the man had no other ideas on what to buy......which is a bit worrying!

Each to their own, as long as everyone is happy! :)

Very happily married on 10th April 2013 :D

My husband and I don't buy each other anything for Xmas ... I think if we were to do it all again we wouldn't have got married ( I didn't particularly want to tbh) ... Maybe it's just me but I certainly didn't see anything significant or not significant on getting engaged on Xmas day

I dont mind admitting I'm very bitter. 2 of my work colleagues got engaged today and I'm very jealous. I've been waiting for nearly 7 years for a proposal that isnt going to come and I've been wishing all day that I had received a lovely diamond engagement ring rather than the piddly little bottle of perfume I got :(

Maybe your OH has been waiting seven years for you to propose.
I proposed to both of my husbands. Not simultaneously, you understand.:D
