A helpful chap from BT Retail's infinity complaints team has now confirmed to me that Openreach do not currently regard "our" cabinet as economically viable for enabling fibre - which definitely has reached other cabinets in the same main road.
Any idea why "ours" is a problem? We're in an ordinary suburban street, with (I would assume) many potential customers for BT Infinity. Could there just happen to be unusually few lines connected to "our" cabinet? Or can there be technical reasons why enabling a particular cabinet is unusually expensive? Or does Openreach know that 80%, or some such, of my neighbours are already signed up to Virgin fibre?
Probably that the cab doesn't serve enough people to warrant installing FTTC - what's the point of them doing it if it's not going to make them any money?
I don't see why you've kicked up a fuss and gone all 'complainer' on them - they don't have to provide FTTC and it's their choice when they want to do it. There's more important things in life to worry oneself with.0 -

I complained to BT Retail because their availability checker has, for over a year, indicated that our line will be enabled at the end of the current quarter (which then rolls forward as the date approaches). This is, in my opinion, misleading. BT Retail has lately switched to labelling this phantom date the "earliest" we can get fibre. This is meaningless. BT Wholesale's website still calls it, completely wrongly, the date "by which". BT Openreach have so far told me to ring 0800 917 7381 - which in fact offers no relevant option. So I may be going all 'complainer' on Openreach soon ...

I expect to be flamed by unhappy BT customers but I'm more than happy with my fibre broadband here in Cornwall. Max 15Mbps now nearly 40 Mbps all for no increase in cost. I'm pretty sure that most areas will have fibre optic before too long and, to be perfectly honest, I don't really notice the difference.0
