OH's dad spoke to CAB today, apparently it's illegal for car insurer to withhold proof of NCD. They said they will be writing to them to let them know we are unhappy with the customer service and also to clarify they're not allowed to withhold the proof of NCD.

AMR - let us know how you get on sorting this out, they are being a nightmare by the sounds of it , I didn't realise it was illegal for car insurers to withold proof of NCD, mentally stored that for future use should I need it!

Xspender - great news on final settlement for your loan being a lot less than expected, good times

  • Kerri - sorry to hear about the row with your other half, men and their sulks hey?! glad the bike ride was good though :D

armchairexpert - woohoo, congratulations on making it on to the debtfree roll of honour! Enjoy the spendy spend, I am sure you will crack the investment debt too :D I sort of roughly know when payments are due etc, but not comfortable enough to know when there is a "safe" amount/time to spend what is in there. I suspect this will get a bit clearer and easier for us as the number of our debts reduces.

bathyboots - I may have to set up a spreadsheet like yours re: when payments are due, it sounds ace

We (stupidly??!) went to view a few houses that are up for sale in our village today. It has certainly helped to focus us on where we want to be (debt free and saving bigtime for a deposit on our home that we want to buy together). We fell in love with one! It was AMAZING! So slightly gutting we are not in a position to buy, but we are taking the positives from it, as it has focused our minds a lot. I think because we do have SO much spare money every month we are not as strict and tight with money as we could be. No more takeaways, no more wasting money on buying lunch at work every now and again. Every penny is going to be going on debt!:A

Well done armchairexpert :j go enjoy being a spendy spenderson for a while - you deserve it! You'd better stick around though :p

newlywed it's dangerous looking at houses, isn't it? It's bad, but sometimes I'm more determined to save for a house than I was to clear my debt... Today I was seriously contemplating living on only half my income, but that would mean turning into a hermit. Don't forget to live a little bit sometimes!

I am in the same boat Newlywed, we too have enough spare cash to live on and overpay our debt but fritter more of it away than we should. Although I am not willing to cut everything to the bone I know we could back more than we do and pay the loan in particular a lot quicker than we are at the moment.

Our goal once debt free is to save up a deposit to move to our forever home. You are braver than me as if I looked at some properties I would make myself miserable:(
    Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%
    Pay off £7000 - £1743 - 19.4%
    Make £2021 extra income - £99.75

I live 10 minutes away from central London by train and that means £300k for a broom cupboard! crazy :eek: Even with no debt I would only be able to get a mortgage for a caravan!! lol

for a non-new build you are lookign at around £120k for a 2-3 bedroom :j but we only earn £34k between us so it's a bit of a push. :rotfl: and with OH's bad credit we're not likely to get a mortgage for ages anyway.
