Snugglebunny8 - my 6th form had a dress code too, although it wasn't quite as insanely strict as that they did want us to wear business dress. They never used those words so I think they didn't know what to call it, but we'd be told "You have to wear the sort of thing you'll wear when you're working", and specifically it was what amounted to business dress.
It makes me laugh now (and did then, because I saw this coming at the time), because out of my close friendship group during 6th form, every one of us went on to university and now works in something related to our degrees, and not one of us wears business dress to work! I go to work in jeans, those were absolutely verboten in 6th form!0 -

:rotfl: sounds about right doesnt it!! do accept there should be a smart dress code but its so OTT I told them today they are making it quite difficult for parents to actually buy what they are asking for as most places we went had eg one pair or trousers that matched the jacket, or one dress but it ends up being too short etc - some of the suit trousers are cropped at the ankle which they dont allow (even though that is the current on trend look) its going to end up costing parents so much more than the school uniform did! they should dress smartly but surely you are preparing them for Uni and the workplace, at 16/17/18 I feel you should be encouraging some freedom of expression and treating them more like adults. They look SO smart, my DDs friend looked stunning in a print dress, jacket and heels today ... but she was told she didnt comply! as parents we should support school but quite honestly I am ticked off with the severity of their bloomin' rule!!
highly unlikely my DD will work in an environment where she has to wear suits other than for interviews, Ive only ever worn suits for interviews! :rotfl:0 -
welcome FeverToTell ! look forward to hearing all about your Christmas prep and your wedding plans, congrats! x
Whenever Ive cut back at Christmas Ive explained to family and close friends that because of X we are putting a limit on the cost of gifts this year and will buy everyone something small but thoughtful, my family do the same when money is tight of they have something they need to save for and everyone is always totally understanding, so I hope your Dad will realise and understand :-)
If you need hamper suggestions there are lots of people here who are fab at it and Im sure will be happy to help - I started doing Christmas Eve hampers last year for hubby and kids they loved it and have asked me to do them again this year, DS's was Man Utd based (Man U mug, toothbrush, piggy bank, pad, pens then hot chocolate sachet, bag of favourite sweets, new pyjamas) DD was zebra based (zebra face beanie hat with ears, matching slipper socks, Blue Nose zebra, zebra print pens, sweets, hot choc and pj's) did DH a cookie hamper and had a cookie monster mug printed with his name
By the way, Next Christmas preview has a beanie hat in the older girls section ans the womens as well, both Christmas Pudding beanies!!0 -
Evening, haven't been about for a couple if weeks, I have been kept very busy.
I also went for my dream job today and got the call saying I didn't get it. I'm so gutted.
I did manage to fine one of the £7.50 Hello Kitty scooters at Tesco last week. So that is put by for my littlest DD.
I'm on the hunt for nice roller skates for my DD. I want to get her proper ones, with 4 wheels and a stopper, but retro ones like we had. I've seen cheap ones, but they don't look like they will last.:santa2::xmastree::santa2:0 -

Thank you for the tips OMO, NNN2, Nanamia and Freespirit – I’mtrying out pre-writing everything on Word and then I’ll copy it onto a reply inone go. When there aren’t so many tomention I’ll try the multi-quote thing.
Pinknfluffy – fab news about the docs, it must be such arelief just knowing that someone has really listened and recognised what you’regoing through. Really glad that MrP isso supportive.
Chrissy – so sorry to hear of the problems your DD has hadsettling in. It’s a difficult call whento step in and when to leave them to it but you know her best so trust your instinctsand 16 is still very young. I think I’ddo the same as you and bring her home.
Welcome Junior-J and Fevertotell.
OMO/Pinksteps – hope you get the tax credits sorted out, it’sso frustrating when these things don’t run smoothly.
Snugglebunny – wow that dress code sounds ridiculous. I think I'm with you on this one.
Fatblackandwhite – glad the Cameo arrived at last.
Nic – really sorry to hear about the job but there must be areason why you didn’t get it this time, there’s probably something even moresplendid around the corner. I know it’s nocomfort now but I’m a believer in fate and things happening for a reason, sohope it works out that way for you.
Feisty - good news about the call from the consultant. Hope the tide has turned and things will be different now for MrFF.
No further progress on all things Christmas in the PPhousehold at the moment but I’ve got plans for next week so hopefully some moreto report then. Apparently there’s ahandmade, craft and vintage fair in Milton Keynes tomorrow so might manage topop in and see what’s there too (if I can get some time away from the hardlabour that’s been going on in our garden for most of the summer and that’s nota euphemism for sunbathing, have spent most of the year digging andshovelling!)
Just read this post back and it’s much more boring than Ithought it would be so sorry all. Hope everyone has a fab weekend. It's the most wonderful timeof the year :0 -
