  • I think I will get my ingredients in for my cakes today. I bought a great baking tin earlier this year that allows you to section off the tin to make different sizes at once. This year I think I will make three smaller ones - us, brother, brother in law. We all like Christmas cake but never enough to finish a whole one.
  • I went to a funeral yesterday and had to do a long round trip and was quite shattered when I got home last night, so treated myself to watching the Royal Family Christmas special! I think someone else on here watched it recently? It cheered me up! I generally like to wait until November/December to watch Christmas films but I do treat myself to TV series' Christmas specials throughout the year. :)

    It was me :xmassmile

Great to switch on this morning & read that some are ready to start their cakes. I'll do mine in September some time. I followed Delia's recipe last time & it came out perfect. Fed it for a couple of months, decorated it with marzipan & icing & a simple red & green ribbon... DS ate most of it as it's only me & him who really like it. But this year nanny has assured me that she enjoys a slice too & as she is coming boxing day, she can be packed off home with a slab.

Christmas prep this weekend will mostly be watching tomorrow's QVC Christmas day. All programmes are set with reminders hoping to pick up any further ideas.... hot chocolate in hand :snow_laug

:santa2:Hi to those who have just joined us. Looking forward to hearing your news & ideas.

    Amysb86 Welcome:snow_laug

    Nic2075. I'm soooooooo excited to go now:j:j
I have just got my secret money out from it’s hidey hole so I can treat the house to something lovely for the festive season:D:D:D

    Look how I spelled Callandar:eek::eek:
The excitement must have been really high when I typed that. I hate making spelling mistakes.
I must go and get myself packed for my weekend.
Back in a couple of days;);)

    xx

Enjoy your break. Callander and the Trossachs are one of my favourite places in Scotland. 40 minutes outside Glasgow and your feel like your in another world. There's loads of lovely waterfalls around, and Rob Roy's grave isn't far up at Balquidder or Stathyre, can't remember which.
Hope it stays dry for you xx

Just de-lurking again to mention how cheap you can get Christmas bits like brooches and cookie cutters from China via ebay. They do take a while to arrive so best to order early. I bought 2 pretty Christmas Tree brooches with crystals on, horse and cockeral brooches. There's a good selection from 99p. No links as they are easy to search.

Got some lovely snowflake cookie cutters earlier in the year, wanted to have a go at making saltdough tags. Will probably just use them for biscuits though!

    Back to lurking ;)

    Hi all :xmassmile

Went to see the consultant on thursday, he was pleased that my progress is heading in the right direction but says it will be a slow process. The disc is now looking ok, although some disc and tissue has reprotruded, but its the nerve damage that is causing me alot of pain. He said time will tell whether it is permanent damage, got to go back in a month and he will continue to monitor me closely to see if I need a further operation. No driving at the moment as my foot is still to weak. ah well its internet shopping for me and the odd nip out when somebody will drive.
On a christmas note. My elf on the shelf arrived and I love her! thanks for the link Mrs Gigglewick. Am now sat here with my christmas folder out writing lists and ticking off presents I have already bought. I cant do spreadsheets and apps, im more of a list girl!
Mrs Christmas - me and my friend are hoping to make a christmas cake each this year. We are waiting for the kids to go back to school and then will start the soaking of fruit.
ELC has a small sale on today.
Nipped into dunelm on thursday and they have some lovely kilner style bottles in funky retro colours like Lime green. They were £1.39, would be ideal for anybody doing flavoured vodkas. Like this

They have lots of things including coca cola straws with tin holder, cups etc x Worth a look for stocking fillers

Hiya. Not sure if it's a local thing but Tesco has Hello Kitty 3 wheel scooters reduced to £7.50. Got one for dd. Would be perfect for anyone who has 3 to 4 year old little girls to buy for. I looked online and they're still £15.00 on there so looks like it's in store only. :)
    Savings Account - £0.00 :(

    Weight Loss - 33lbs lost 9lbs to go :)

Grabbed quite a few bits for my OCC shoebox today, so that box is almost done. Just want to at least find a nice little cuddly toy to pop in :)
  • Sneaking back in to join the chatter. It's been quite miserable here with family fall outs, considering I don't talk to half of them I still get an ear bashing from the rest. My option was to switch off from everyone for a few weeks and let them get on with it.
So, having the builders in next month to fit new front door and French doors, so no doubt the place will look a mess for a while. I've been ordering new bits for the lounge and dining room and quite looking forward to getting things in order then it's sorting through the bits I've got already for Christmas. The plan is to have most of the house straight and Christmas sorted by beginning of November then that will give DS and myself some time to visit some Christmas attractions.
