I'm going to do pork in mine today - maybe in an apple/cider sauce with onions, unless anyone else has got a better idea for me?
  • It's lovely in cider and apple sauce - I do this.

Hi, I have mince and macaroni in mine at the mo. Dont know what it is like but got a recipe book for christmas and this is one of them.

MrsMck - how did it turn out? I've got the same book but I wondered if the macaroni would be really mushy?

  • today i have one sliced red onion under a brisket of beef (£2.58 @Mr M!) some herbs and chilli flakes some gravy and a good slug of worcester sauce Ive thinly sliced 2 potatoes and laid them on top of the brisket to make a sort of hotpot! As my SC is tiny and only have myself and DD to feed I'm hoping it will work !

Does anyone wrap small joints of meat in foil before putting in the slow cooker?

I have a couple of small pork loins in the freezer, going to slice one into steaks/chops and was thinking of putting the other in the slow cooker.

I don't want to cook it with anything else, just on its own so that we can slice it thinly and use for sandwiches during the week. I thought it might not shrink as much if I wrap it in foil and put it into a small dish with water surrounding the dish.

That sounds absolutely scrummmmmmmieee, I never think of even looking at duck legs when Im shopping, are they good value? In my slow cooker today I cooked chicken legs in a value pasta sauce....it was luverrrrlyy and tasty but bet duck would have won the day. :rotfl:

I regularly do a lovely brisket for Sunday lunch with carrots, onion, swede, celeriac, some red wine and a bit of stock -yum!

My query though is that everything I cook in SC, including above, always produces quite a thin runny gravy. If I add cornflour at the beginning will this thicken my sauce? At the moment I drain juice out and thicken in a saucepan before serving.

Also, does anyone have a fab lamb shank recipe? I am doing a 'Come Dine with Me' evening for some girlfriends at the end of the month and would love to do these with garlic mash and roasted veggies as a main.

    Thanks :D
