Hi all I am looking for inspiration on healthy means in the s/c?
We have spag bol and cottage pie around 4 times a month each and I imagine they are not healthy - I don't know why as the mince is lean!
We also make chilli, also heard it's unhealthy but again, we use lean mince...
Any ideas?MFW #185

I ve just finished nightshift at 7 and came home and popped in chinese chicken.
5 skinless chicken legs
2 cloves of garlic
fresh ginger
mushrooms
onion
dash of lemon juice
good couple of dashes of soy sauce
touch of water
hopefully when i wake up our tea will be almost done ,i ll just quickly make some noodles to go with it.
Edit to say just tasted this and its gorgeous but i did add a teaspoon of flour an hour before the end to thicken the sauce.
eager learner this should count as healthy as i always skin the chicken and don t put any oil in at all.Salt level may not be good though unless you use reduced salt soy sauce.

Thinking about doing a meatloaf in mine today. Got beef mince and sausagemeat out of freezer last night, going to add stuffing, egg, herbs, chopped mushrooms. Also got some left over pancetta to wrap over.
Has anyone done this before? I think you just stick the tin in water and leave for a few hours. Will report back...
I always slow cook my vegetarian-style 'meat' loaves. I put the mixture into a pudding basin and cover with pleated foil. I put about and inch of water in the slow cooker and then lower the pudding basin into this. Seems to come out fab each time.

Hi Jenny 2008
I often do a ham shank in the slow cooker for pea soup. I simmer the shank for about half an hour in a saucepan before adding it to the slow cooker, this gets rid of any scum etc and it has never been too fatty. I must admit I haven't soaked it the night before but have heard this is a good method.
I usually use dried peas (soaked the night before) and carrots and onions.
Its amazing how much meat came off the last shank too - was a nice one £1.49 in Morrisons, but we ended up with loads of pea soup, ham for sandwiches, and ham and chips :j
best wishes

Do you have any recipes or basic guidelines for your veggie loaves? I'd be really interested0 -
In mine at the minute, 1 oxtail, 1 tin of Tuscan Bean Soup (29p B&M), 1 tin Tesco Chopped Tomatoes with Garlic (25p on offer at the minute).
Never tried cooking oxtail before so I am not sure what it will be like so fingers crossed.
It smells nice anyway.0
