In my slow cooker today...

Not putting anything in mine today. Was preparing at 5.50am yesterday so the family would have a hot meal. OH said "I don't want any" and the kids showed little interest and left most of theirs. Wondering why I'm bothering peeling and chopping fresh veg and meat and tinkering about with seasonings to provide a homecooked hot meal. Planned nothing for tonight - they can eat chicken nuggets if that's what they prefer. Totally demotivated and hurt.Wendy x0

Hi Wendy - don't let that completely put you off. I'm sure it was a just a 'one-off'. Did you remember to freeze some of it for another time?
It will always come in handy as a 'HM Ready Meal' - even if it's only for yourself while they're munching away on 'evil' chicken nuggets!
Better luck with the family next time.

Persevere! It takes time for people (particularly men and young children) to adjust to different things.
My son was a terrible eater a few years ago. Only ate it if it was brown or breadcrumbed, and wouldn't tolerate vegetables or gravy. After a week or so of him complaining and me not giving in things changed and he'll now eat pretty much anything I put on his plate.
If hubby complains, whack him round the head with a frying pan, and tell him if he doesn't like it then he can cook everyone's dinner.Weight loss to date - 8st 13lbs :j0 -
I have just stuck stuff for a lamb stew in my slow cooker, which although I have had for nearly a year, hardly ever use! (I know-its sacrilege! I do love my remoska and BM though
)
So I have put-broth mix (peas barley etc) which I soaked overnight, chopped carrots celery leeks and turnips, potatoes, some thyme, and chunks of (VERY) cheap stewing lamb. Poured in boiling water to the top of the slow cooker(doesn't QUITE cover the lamb completely but it is all in water IYKWIM?) and some salt and pepper.
I was planning on having it tonight-about 5/6ish will it be ok? I have it on high for an hour and was then planning on turning to low. Its a morphy richards 3.5l one (which seems ever so small really compared to my le creuset but thought SC better than 4-5 hours in electric oven)
I haven't precooked anything. Will it work? Or do I need to figure something else out for dinner0 -
Yes, it will be delicious. I did this only yesterday (I did brown the lamb pieces first though) and we had a fabulous dinner last night.0

If you've cut your veggies into quite small pieces, it should be OK. Sounds delicious - hope it does work out for you. I find that carrots can be one of the last things to get fully cooked in a stew-type meal
Will you have time to perhaps whack it back up to 'High' once you get back in again - IF the carrots aren't quite cooked through?
Good Luck
ps - I have been known to 'blast' carrots in the microwave for a few minutes before assembling the slow cooker - just to make sure (it can be done while you still prepping the other veggies).

Am actually in and out all day today so can keep an eye on it and the carrots and spuds etc. I put the soup mix and veg at the bottom, then the potatoes and lamb nearer the top, will that make any difference0

Let me know how it turns out and whether it is tender? I haven't cooked a beef joint either and keep meaning to but worried I'll mess it up and it'll be a waste of money!working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
Thanks for the encouragement folks. I know what OH's problem is, he doesn't want anyone else deciding what he's having for his tea - he wants to decide for himself. Which usually means he gets to 10pm gaming on line and then decides he's hungry, too late to cook and we end up with a packet of crisps and bed!
He also wanted the family to all eat at the same time as I did - we're eating cheaper, healthier and more socially, but because I'm doing the cooking the control freak in him objects.Wendy x0
