Roast Chicken - I cleaned the chicken in warm water first, put half a lemon & some garlic inside. Put salt & pepper on outside. Put in slow cooker on top of 3 balls of rolled up tin foil (to keep off the bottom) and a glass of white wine. Turned out really nice & loads of chicken from it. HTH. Shogs
  • Okay - looks like roast chick for dinner on Sunday then - great for me `cos I'm @ work till 3.00 and then no much else to do to it when I get `ome. Cheers.

was just wondering as before I have wanted to do a roasted gammon joint but though it had to have a liquid in it so have done it in water.

I've done gammon 2 ways, on it's own, and with a splash of apple juice/cider. Both yummy.
Roast chicken in slow cooker - what do you do with/to it before putting it in - they tell you brown things etc.

Nothing :D I'm lazy, just whack mine in and cook it on low for about 8 hours. Don't use foil, don't wash it. Sometimes put in some garlic or lemon or tarragon but that's about it. Tis yummy.

cooking in my slow cooker today is a vegetarian chilli, i have made enough for one for tomorrows tea and one for the freezer, will feed the 6 of us twice!

1 bag asda frozen vege mince 600g bag
2 jars smart price chilli sauce
1 tin smart price kidney beans, 2 if you really like them!
    4 carrots
    2 onions

fry onions and carrots together until softened, then mix in with the other ingredients in the slow cooker and cook for 3-4 hours on high.

going to have it with rice tomorrow and jacket potatoes next week!

Ham shank/hock is going in mine for overnight :D.

Soup and broth mix is already soaking and have peeled/chopped carrots, swede, leek, parsnip, onion, celery and pots ready to turn half of the stock and most of the meat into Shank Stew for tomorrow night's tea :D. The veggies came from a cheap rootveg pack plus SP pots.

The remaining stock and meat will become pea and ham soup on Saturday using a pack of yellow split peas and lentils .
