Well I have not attempted it yet lol, excuse this thread if it is scatty had some strong pain killers.

Anyways this year we are having lamb on Xmas day, the left over veg and lamb is going to be thrown in the SC with added veg, stock and perl barley. Then I am going to let it cook down.

    HTH

Going to add in some chicken bovril, the stuff in jars to add flavour but this would work with most jared stock.

Four chicken carcasses simmering away nicely in mine right now. I'll leave them all night and strain them in the morning to cool down. Not sure what to do with the stock, maybe some chicken and leek soup or just freeze it for whenever it's needed.

Newlywed, can you advise ref the stuffed peppers - do you just put them in the slow cooker, or do they need to be wrapped in foil, or with some water added?

Edit -just done a Google search and found loads of recipes - some say add extra liquid, others just plonk the peppers straight in. No mention of foil. There's only one way to find out! Must go and buy some peppers - there seems no end to what a slow cooker can do. I reckon I might try roasted veg - I'll brush with olive oil, wrap in foil, and bung them in, maybe next to the roast peppers. Now, if only a slow cooker could do housework as well as cooking...

I do them stuffed with barley which you part boil in stock first. Then stuff em with the barley and mixed veg, then bung in slow cooker with a bit of stock/water in th bottom (about an inch or so I usually do). Then leave them on low till you're hungry ;)
working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?
  • I'm loving my slowcooker at the moment because I'm super busy at work and then going to the hospital every night to visit my MIL so the night before I just bung in any veg, meat, stock etc and viola... instant dinner when I get in! :D

On Saturday night I'd taken out of the freezer what I thought were beef sausages... was planning on making sausage and mash for dinner on Sunday, but it turned out to be lamb Neck - how I got the two mixed up would be anyone's guess... but I chucked the neck in some bags of flour, braised them very quickly and then threw all the left over veg I could find into the slow cooker along with some lamb stock I'd frozen a few weeks before and I made the most gorgeous lamb stew with crusty bagette ever! It was delicious!
  • Just bought a slow cooker last week as I am now working evenings and its easier to do a stew or something for tea, so that the kids and OH ca eat at 'normal' time and I can have the same when I get back!!

So I'm a SC virgin!! Am soooo excited, but forgot to get some meat out of the freezer....am off to the shops now to buy some so I can slow cook!! hehe!
Made it - 15 years married!! Finally!! xx:beer:

I have been given a slow cooker, with no instructions and want to try it out today.
I have bought a seasonal veg pack from tescos, planning to vegetable stew.
How long should I leave it to cook?????
