  • Chicken Dickinson today:

Chicken breasts diced into large pieces
    Condensed chicken soup
    Mayonnaise
    Cream
    Curry powder
    Mushrooms
    Broccoli

I've always thought this recipe sounded strange but the smell coming from the SC when I left the house was gorgeous!

  • I haven't used my slow cooker in ages - having a curry tonight, so popped in some chicken drumsticks to cook for a few hours (got 2 large packs of them in Tesco for 62p!!) before preparing the curry.
Just put them in 'dry so hope that they will turn out allright??
Great thread, great reading on this bright, cold morning out here in the west.
    Any suggestions on this, please.

  • I'd have put a bit of stock in there to make sure they didn't stick or anything. Or knowing me, a bit of wine LOL! I love curry done in the slow cooker as the chicken is miles nicer than stove curry.

  • Wine it is then - getting to be a habit, the odd sip when making the curry. Will maybe try and make something else from Mamptas Kitchen to bulk things out.
    Thanks,
    Anna

Mine's a curry as well tonight - can't wait to get home and start pigging out! Butternut squash, sweet potato, carrot, chickpeas and aduki beans - and the squash/sweet potato were YS at Sainsburys (20p each for 2 pre-prepared bags)) so really cheap and easy! Yum!

Anyone else have both sizes? I'm addicted to slow cooking though!

My original was a 5ltr one which was great (including low/high/auto heat levels), but I decided that I wanted a larger one. Got a 6.5ltr one with fancy lcd timer display but no temp control ! Have to admit that the I prefer the size of the newer one as I can do a turkey drumstick etc in it PLUS when I do scouse, chilli, curry etc there are plenty of left-overs for extra freezing portions.

The 5ltr one now lives with my son, but is only a phone-call away if I should happen to need it for super-duper catering binges :D.

In mine today was 750g of minced beef (browned off first) with chopped onions and garlic (sweated with cayenne pepper, paprika and med chilli powder), sweated mixed sliced peppers, tin of sweetcorn, jar of SmartPrice chilli sauce, tin of SP kidney beans, tin of SP chopped tomatoes and some dried mixed herbs. We had some for our evening meal and the remainder has been divided into margarine tubs of varying sizes. These are now living in my freezer as ready meals :D.

The much talked-about Caribbean Chicken in mine today - and it better taste fabulous after all that fiddling about, it had proper measurements and everything!

Far too technical for me, and exactly how big would your pan have to be to fry everything inc. sauce together first - well, I suppose 6.5l would do it! :rotfl:

My largest pan struggled to cope, and then there was the inevitable messy handover to the sloco...

Normally I'd have fried off the onions but put chicken, carrots, mushrooms etc. in cold - for some reason because it was a 'proper' recipe I felt I couldn't skip bits (although the peaches & celery are conspicuous in their absence.)

I understand about getting the sloco temp up as fast as possible, particularly where chicken in concerned, but this really was far too much faffing for me - bit of chopping, bit of frying, whizzing cans and safe operation of corkscrew is about my limit!

So, has anyone else made this and skipped most of the prep?
