  • I made some Greek Beef Stifado yesterday - very yummy! I think there was *something* missing but can't quite put my finger on it - anyone have a really good recipe that I can compare? I did roasted new potatoes with it and there's enough for both of us for tonight, so easy dinner.

Next time I will make lots more, just wanted to test the water first!

Some leftover wine at home will go nciely with the pears & cream - thanks for the lovely idea!

PS: I am a complete convert to s/c rice pudding - delish and so much thicker than the tinned stuff. MrEL loves the homemade version and there was almost plate-liking! Plus enough for little tupperwares full, to take to work as a mid afternoon treat.

  • Hi all,

made this for the 2nd time-doubled up recipe (full to brim in my 6.5l rival cooker!).............SO SO easy-cheap/filling/low GI (!) delicious! I freeze it in portions-saves a fortune!

    1 x sainsburys 'stewpack/winter veg pack' (contains swede/carrot/parsnip & onion-about 750 gms)
    2 small onions
    1.8litres boiling water
200gm green lentils (sure any lentil would be fine)
    2 tablespoons olive oil
1 x rounded teaspoon ground coriander
1 x rounded teaspoon ground cumin
1 x teaspoon freshly groud black pepper
    1 teaspoon 'lazy' red chilli (in jar-or as cheap/cheaper to throw in 2 green/red chillis-seeds & all-chopped)
4 sainsbury value veg stock cubes
    .

Finely chop (after cleaning-no real need to peel-just cut off any bad bits) all veg ...this time I just biltzed to small in food processor-made short work of it as I doubled above recipe!) all...........dissolve s cubes in boiling water-throw all into slow cooker-DONE!

COOK ON LOW FOR 7-9 HOURS-COOL-liquidize-JOB DONE!

    Amazingly tasty-above makes 6 portions...costing pennies per portion-LOW GI/ONLY 200 CALS A BOWL!

Needed NO salt as enough in the cubes-try it-SO SO easy & cheap!
  • Thanks so much Travelman - will try that sometime!

In mine today is a pack of diced turkey, half a red onion, tspoon of garlic, a can of low fat condensed chicken soup, a splash of chicken stock concentrate, and a splash of worcs. sauce.

Made it up as I went along, is for my boys for dinner as I'm working through, never tried using one of the condensed soups before so will see how it goes!

    Fingers crossed everyone :D

  • I'm going to put a ham in there tomorrow morning with cider. Those of you who have cooked hams or joints of meat, how much liquid should I put in there? The top of the ham won't burn or dry out if it is not covered will it?

I only put in a small amount of liquid when cooking ham, and no, it doesn't burn or dry out.
