I bought a ham shank from the butchers, soaked it last night & put it in the SC this morning.

The smell was horrible so I opened the lid to have a look....it just looked like boiled fatty pork; nothing like ham. Needless to say I binned it (not very MSE I know) & won't be trying it again.

I then put carrots, onions, red lentils & 2 ham stock cubes in SC with some curry powder & boiling water to make a spicy lentil soup.....this smells very nice :T

Thicken with flour or cornflower. I usually take some liquid out and mix the flour into that and then return to the SC.

Sounds good - I have some brisket in the freezer that I plan to put in.

Did you add any liquid or veggies?

    Thanks :)

I added a little water at the bottom of the crock pot which along with the juices I used for a gravy cooked it on high for 8 hours, Didn't add Veg to it tonight as we had a lazy dinner so we just put it in warm baguettes(healthy huh ;) ) :D

Chucked a stew in this morning, whilst waiting to hear if hubby had got to work ok. (I waited nearly 2 hours, he got there after an hour but forgot to ring me!) Anyway it contains:
I softened and browned a red onion and brown onion (thats what I had!) and 2 sticks of celery, with a bit of garlic. Added a pack of tesco value stewing beef (95p reduced!), Chucked it in the slow cooker with a couple of chopped carrots, which I couldn't be bothered to peel so I just washed properly! Then I added a beef stock cube dissolved in boiling water. I then found a few mushrooms in the fridge, so they got chucked in the frying pan with a bit more water so that I got all the nice bits off the bottom of the pan. Added it all with a glug of worcestershire sauce and a bouquet garni.
Hoping to have a very nice tea with mash and yorkshires!
Money, money, money, must be funny....in a rich mans world.

Could it have been a Pork Shank? If so, they are far better slow-roasted than boiled. One of my aunties used to do a mid-week roast with pork shank.

I thought this too, so I double checked the cellophane the butcher had put on it and the label definitely said ham shank .....they had it in smoked too but I opted for unsmoked as I thought it wouldn't have been as salty.
