Yes, put the chicken carcass in SC, with some onion, garlic, carrots, and herbs. Cover with water, and cook on high for a few hours. Strain, then add any veg, pulses, you want.

After a few hours on high, blend if required or leave chunky, then if you have any diced chicken meat reserved, add to SC for the last hour. You can also put milk/cream/coconut milk in if required at this stage. After the hour, adjust seasoning, with seasalt, and black pepper.

  • Please be gentle with me!

I have used my 6.5l slow cooker a few times but really don't know what I can/should put in it.

Can I put in uncooked rice? If so is there any prepearation I need to do?
What about lentils, do I just throw them in with the rest or do I need to do something with the lentils first?

I have a couple of cans of kidney beans ... any ideas?

    Thank you in advance

  • Also forgot to ask, how much liquid should I put in, does it need to cover the everything in the cooker or just an inch or so in the bottom.

    Sorry & thank you!

All can be done in SC. I did a risotto one. The recipes on this thread somewhere.

I use lentils, and tinned kidney beans frequently in SC. I just put them in at the start of cooking. Tinned kidney beans have all the toxins boiled out of them, so are safe. Dried lentils are fine to put in at the beginning.

If using dried kidney beans, soak overnight, and boil rapidly for at least 10 mins, beforwe adding to SC.

    Hiya

My SC instruction booklet says not to cook rice, but then I think someone else on this thread has made rice pudding... so maybe it depends. Sorry that's not very helpful :) Good luck with using your SC, I have an 'experiment' cooking at the moment and it smells yum - hope it tastes as such!

how much Cider do you use. just an inch worth or more? and then wht do you do when the joint is cooked. use the juice for gravy?

For the pork joint, I take the skin off (save it for crackling) and just put an inch or two in the bottom - I've tried making pea and ham soup with the juices but didn't really work out right -and I don't know where I'm going wrong!
Made it - 15 years married!! Finally!! xx:beer:
