got beef stew in mine - I even remembered to buy some dumplin' mix so I can add them 1/2 hour before I dish up!!! yum!!

i've never tried bought dumpling mix, are they heavy or fluffy??

i just use 1 part suet (veg suet not beef for me) and 2 parts selfraising flour, some herbs, salt n pepper, and maybe some horshraidsh sauce. warm water to mix then cook. more flour = fluffier, less = heavier. *by 'parts' i usually mean 'shot glasses'!!

i do find it odd that they take about the same time on hob as in s/c.

gammon hock from Morrisons, few bendy carrots, half a sorry sweede, pepper, mixed herbs, lots and lots of dried green split peas.

meat, carrots and mushy peas for tea with roasties... then usually pork for stir fry or something tomorow hopefully, and should have about 4/6 portions of pea and ham soup left over too. yum yum.

Hiya it all sounds so yummy, would you be able to send me the recipes for the liver and the banana bread please. I have just been given an AWT Breville Slow Cooker 4.5L which is bigger than the one I already have. I would like to try some more recipes but I have trouble finding a recipe index on here would someone have a link please

If you get in the habit of using the "indexed collections" link at the top right of the page in OS, you can find everything that way! :j

  • Mix all spices together and rub into meat. Chop 1 onion and 2 cloves of garlic and put into the bottom of the SC. Place the meat on top.

    Mix together:
    • 6 fluid ounces Coca-Cola
    • 2 tablespoons hot pepper sauce

Pour into the slow cooker and cook on low for 8 hours

Shread the meat with a fork.

The cooking liquid is very very hot so I have frozen into ice cube trays and will use whenever I need a hit of chilli

I served it in wraps with fried onions and peppers with sour cream and salsa. Also used the onions & garlic out of the SC and pureed with a tin of red kidney beans and a little of the cooking liquid to make a version of refried beans.

Half of it has made enough for 4 adults and 2 children, the rest will be frozen to be repeated in a couple of weeks!

Not very interesting today, pots and leek soup, then added some diced bacon, made enough for 4 servings, so 3 for the freezer and one for lunch tomorrow, although resisting to eat it now as it smells so good!!

  • I had a curry cooking in mine all day - about 600g cubed chicken, head of broccoli, diced parsnip and swede, peas and sweetcorn. All cooked in 4 (but 3 would have done I think) tins Mr T value curry sauce (the 4p ones).
After a long day at work it was nice just to bung some rice on and have a great meal, and I've got at least 2 meals for the 3 of us to go in the freezer now!

I'm thinking about buying the bigger SC, so I can really bulk up on my freezer supply, and am also thinking about starting to use more pulses to keep the costs down. Getting there though, one step at a time!

    hiya minniepoos

that sounds lovely, havent noticed the 4p tins of value curry sauce are they in the usual aisle of curry pastes and tins etc?

so you put all those ingrediants in the slow cooker and what left it for about 5-6 hours?

sounds really nice and easy

have a fab day cheers maz

That sounds nice. I've not tried that particular jerk seasoning, as I usually use a paste, but spring onions (or onions), and bell peppers would go well.
