Chicken and Winter Veg Casserole - browned thigh pieces, onions, carrots, leek, half a small swede, two bendy celery sticks, parsnip, small amount of butterbeans (not enough to cook and serve as a veg), soup&broth mix, chicken stock cubes, veg stock cube, dried mixed herbs and black pepper. Will have later with creamed pots - no extra veg needed as there's quite enough in there already .

Beef cooked in chicken stock? Blurgh! ;)

Also - why bother with white pepper given that the meal is dark anyway?

Good for you Queenie, you know your ingredients, I use chicken stock cubes and veg stocks cubes more than I ever do beef stock like you I use lots of flavourings with my cooking.:T

I only use veg stock too (usually Marigold, or Knorr), unless I've got some HM chicken stock.

Yesterdays Beef stew in mine, on high setting.
  • Hi Guys!

In my SC today, I have a leg of lamb with half a bottle of red, 2 oxo cubes, water, 2 onions cut in quarters and 3 garlic cloves with salt and pepper.

Smells delish. Will serve with goose fat roasties, HM yorkies, cabbage, carrots & peas.

    Yummy

I am actually doing a large chicken roast today (wouldnt fit in SC!!) and then the leftover chicken will go in SC tomorrow but dont want to do the same as I did last week otherwise it will become repetitive. what else can I do with chicken? I have veg, chicken oxo cube, pots I suppose I could put a tin of toms in with it and then have pasta?

  • Yesturday did a beef stew:
one pack (500g) Sainsburys "everybody's favorite" beef £2.20
    1 leek sliced
    2 carrots diced
    1 onion diced
    1 or 2 garlic cloves
    1 large can cheap tomatoes
plain flour mixed with a teaspoon each of paprika, ground pepper and salt
1 tablespoon of mushroom ketchup ( substitute for 1/2 tbsp lea and perrins)
a glug of red wine if you like
    veg oil for frying

    turn on SC
prep vegetables and get everything ready
gently fry the veg and garlic until translucent and transfer to plate
dust beef in the flour mix and fry on high heat till browned (just do a few pieces at a time) and transfer to plate
deglaze fry pan with the wine/tomatoes mix
add the fried veg and meat and stir
    add water if too thick
bring to boil and transfer to SC
cook for 4 to 6 hours on low.
will serve 4 (or 2 for main meal and left overs whizzed up for soup the next day)

tasty served with rice, potatoes or in a large yorkshire pudding case.

  • :TI LOVE MY SLOW COOKER:T

I made my curry/stew/casserole yesterday and warmed it up today and the kids couldnt get enough of it.

I also bought a bread maker today too, and made some banana bread for pudding and they polished that off.

Ooooh its so satidfying knowing my kids are eating great food that i have made from scratch with very little nasties in.

Im gonna do Liver, bacon & onions on thursday in my SC - cant wait.

This thread has given me a new sense of direction for food, with so many ideas i acually feel i can enjoy food again.

Hiya it all sounds so yummy, would you be able to send me the recipes for the liver and the banana bread please. I have just been given an AWT Breville Slow Cooker 4.5L which is bigger than the one I already have. I would like to try some more recipes but I have trouble finding a recipe index on here would someone have a link please

You could put a tin of tomatoes, with a large onion, garlic, herbs, salt and pepper, and serve with pasta, that would be delicious. If you have any broccoli, or green beans, or green pepper that would go very nicely too.
