Today we're having pork ribs with BBQ sauce. The ribs have been in since about 11 this morning with a bit of stock.

I'm going to make Jamie Oliver's BBQ sauce recipe, but it calls for 2 tbsp of fennel seeds, which I haven't go (and neither did our local co-op) :( I don't even know what fennel tastes like, so I have no idea how much the final result will be 'affected' by leaving them out! Unless anyone knows of an alternative to put in apart from fennel seeds?? (There is already paprika, cumin, garlic and gloves going in).

That wouldn't be the first inedible thing I've added (by mistake!) ...usually part of the packaging!

I'm guessing gloves won't really subsitute for missing fennel seeds :)

What a disappointment this evening. I had done all my prep this morning and everything was in the SC before we set out for a day in town. So looking forward to a nice hot bowl of pea soup this evening on our return and wat whas there? No lovely smells. No lovely dinner. Cold veg and split peas in cold water.... :-(
We had to resort to cheese on toast, that never happens in the champys household!
Turns out that I had been so busy fiddling with the timer switch, which I needed to set because I knew we would be out for longer than the cooking time, that - yes - I forgot to turn the actual knob on the SC to 'on'. Oh dear. The sort of mistake one only makes once, I guess. Or I hope!
The pea soup is now on overnight so we'll have it for lunch tomorrow.

  • just checked the porridge it's looking mighty fine and ready so have turned the knob to warm and hoping it'll be okay

A bit late now, but fennel (the plant is a bit aniseedy) so I assume the seeds are as well.

I'm feeling super organised today! I'm now working 12 hour shifts, yesterday I was starviong when I got home and ended up eating rubbish so before I went to bed I prepared a meal for the slow cooker and turned it on before I left the house this morning. Its a bit of a mish-mash as I've not been shopping properly for about 3 weeks! It contains:

    A chicken breast portion,
A tin of haricot beans that have been lurking for months!
    A tin of toms
Some leftover passata from the freezer
Some courgette and sundried tomato chutney
    veg stock powder
    green beans
    onions
    garlic
    basil
    dried herbs
    capers
    celery.

Think we'll have it with pasta as the OH can cope with cooking that!!!
