Just wondering.....seen lots of recipes on here using pulses/beans/lentils/pear barley. Do they need to be soaked first?

Soaking will make the pulses softer. I have used them without presoaking, and they were fine. The only things to be wary of are kidney beans if not soaked and pre-boiled.0
