  • There's a distinct chill in the air today - in fact positively artic so its some lovely braising beef, carrots, onions, parsnips, bay etc and a scrummy beef stew and dumplings to look forward to tonight for us!

There's nothing like the aroma of beef stew cooking throughout the day to build the anticipation for a hearty tea round the telly tonight. :D

I have some beef to do a stew 2moro in the SC, but I've bought a cheap bottle of beer to go with it, do I soak it before or just add to the SC and cook?

swede wasn't cooked properly. I think we must have bought a dud :-(
  • I've tried diced pork today for the first time and it was really nice.
I put in a sliced onion , a chunky sliced bramley apple, 1/2 a bottle of cheap cider (about 200ml) 2 tsp of whole grain mustard, about 200ml of stock (from a pork cube) some chopped sage a tsp of tomatoe puree and the diced pork - 450g i think (was a whoopsie)

Threw it all in this morning , peeled the spuds and put them in water , went out with the kids and only took 20 mins to cook and mash the spuds when we got home :j and a lovley t

think i'll be using the slow cooker loads more at weekends now it coming colder especailly

I just bought a lovely pack of beef stewing steak so that I can have a huge big stew tomorrow! Going to throw a whole load of veg in with it and just see what it turns out like!
