  • Yes I have a family sized one about 1.5 litres and I borrow one from work when I am doing the team lunch for 12 which is 5 litres.Usually for soup or tangine or bolognese.

It's great to keep precooked food on a lowlight when entertaining. My last Moroccan Night's slow cooker contents were - Moroccan Lamb and a Vegetarian Tangine.

Excellent ideas on here for slow cooking, don't know why I didn't come here earlier. I usually use lamb or chicken in the slow cooker, and I have done a version of lamb tagine before. Annelouise, do you use finely chopped carrots in it as well, because I find this complements the sweetness of good lamb? Have you ever used prunes or apricots, because I love them, but the other half is not too keen on fruits with meat.
I love slow cooking currys, because the meat is so tender (Unlike most takeaways, where the lamb can be like rubber). I also find dishes like Bouef Bourgignon and Coq au Vin are great, because the flavours of the sauce really amalgamate with the meat and vegetables.
This is making me hungry, time to heat up some of Saturday's lamb Madras I think ;)

Apples for apple, Cider and Pork do turn to mush.

Yes mine did, so I used them in the gravy.

I have a large Boneless Turkey Breast Joint defrosting on the side ready to go into the slow cooker tomorrow morning.
I have never done turkey in the SC before, so does anyone have any hints or tips on what i can do with it? Do I need to add any liquid and can i chuck any veggies in with it and what?

Hello. I've not done turkey, but I have done meat joints and other poultry, so I would imagine you do the same. Sit it on a bed of vegetables with an inch or so of liquid (stock/water/wine/whatever), for a complete meal.

I have two slow cookers, although I only use the big one. (I have a small one and a big one)

If i am going to cook, might as well do it big! lol

I have 3 and have never used them until last night!
Had a really little one that would probably just fit 2 chicken breasts in, I bought a 1.8l in ASDA for a fiver last week and MIL gave me a bigger one say 2-2.5l which is about 100 years old! :p

So, now I've had my baby I have started batch cooking each month and this month decided to use my SC.

Rather unconventially (because it's the only time I could get Jack to sleep!) at 4.30pm I started cooking!

In the 1.8l SC - we had beef madras for 4 people (well, OH and I for 2 meals!) consisted of beef cubed which I browned slightly, madras paste, onions, tinned tomatoes and some water.

In larger one we had beef casserole - beef, potatoes & carrots with stock.

Both smelt divine however, I think I added too much water as the curry was a bit runny but I can thicken when I reheat it.

I switched it off at midnight (had it on HIGH) and put it in plastic containers and then popped in freezer when I got up for 4.30am feed.

Next plan is to use it to make chilli for 8, bolg for 8, lasagne base, chicken tikka and then use it daily for my other chicken breast meals like mini roast, mexican chicken etc.
