Hi there. Hope you don't mind me joining in. I've been a long time lurker, introduced myself months ago, an then went back to being quiet (sooo unlike me!).
Today I have a whle chicken in my slow cooker. Never tried roasting in a sc before so hope it turns out well. Browned it off in a large pan, put in sc, added s & p and some bay leaves. Think I'd better go and check on it soon though.0 -
Hi snoopy58! Same here, I used to post every day and be very active but I got to the point where I felt like my efforts at home were not appreciated, and even worse, were causing friction so I left it all alone. Sorted things out now thank god and all is well.
So in the slow cooker today I have diced pork steaks with onion, carrot, swede, sweet potato, parsnip and beer!Wendy x0 -
So it's not just me then. I seem to have gone 'underground' at home at the moment. OH, DS & DD seem to be (getting) fed up with me and my mse ways. Oh well, they'll just have to put up with it and watch me reap the rewards.
Mind you, I don't hear thm saying no when I produce nice meals and still have some cash for a few little extras.
And the smell of home cooking (erm, the slow cooker) is really welcoming as the nights start to draw in. :j0 -
Yeah these were all things I was aspiring too - saving cash, and all eating home cooked meals together and coming home to the smell of the slow cooker - all very homey things. But it wasn't working that way (you can message me if you want LOL). But back on track now and everyone pulling together instead of different directions....Wendy x0

My girls are now back in the idea that they won't eat anything unless I've cooked it.......... I'm savign a fortune and they are eating properly and throughout the week it doesn't take loads of time to get a mea lon the table, so they have cut down on rubbish.... mummy where did you learn to cook like this! Nothing different than I used to do when they were little before I got lazy and wrapped up in work and bought into the stupid idea that convience was best.Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.0 -
My teenagers went through a stage were they would sometimes lift the lid on my SC and moan and I'd end up cooking another meal just for them. Idiot that I was!
Now if they turn their noses up I show them the toaster.
It would appear that they are beginning to see the delights of the SC again rather than have to get off their bottoms and make their own. Problem sorted!AUGUST GROCERY CHALLENGE £115.93/ £250

Hey Gizmo, what sort of things do you do for tea in the week, cos I do find a lot of prep and a lot of pots (usually done by me ....).
I'm looking to steal ideas!Wendy x0 -

Do you just put all the ingredients in and add stock and cook on low or do you brown the mince first?
If you don't brown the mince, does it look "cooked" or is it still the same colour as when it went in?
