Hey Gizmo, what sort of things do you do for tea in the week, cos I do find a lot of prep and a lot of pots (usually done by me ....).

    I'm looking to steal ideas!

I do things like spag bo, cottage pie etc and freeze, just need to add pasta and mash which I've cooked before and frozen - not pasta.

I also stick a joint of pork in there and then get the nearly roasted pots from freezer, and stick in oven for 45 mins and then add the pork to make crispy.
For tomorrow I have some rump steak, onions mushrooms, oxo cube slosh of wine, pepper which we will have with some new pots.

I've put chicken breast in the slo cooker with a bit of butter on top and left on low all day, kids like it with bolied rice - 20 min meal. Smoked haddock the same as chicken, but with some potoato.

I chuck all the left over veg etc in with some stock and make a soup with some crusty bread - I have breadmaker so set it for ready for teatime.

I did some sliced pots with cheese and cream and white sauce last week was delicious with some grilled gammon.

I haven't cooked mince in my slow cooker yet.
Do you just put all the ingredients in and add stock and cook on low or do you brown the mince first?
If you don't brown the mince, does it look "cooked" or is it still the same colour as when it went in?
Would love to do a bolognese in slow cooker.

I always brown mince and drain, else the meal tastes full of fat - others seem to do bettter and have it tasting good.
Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.

I do buy the least fat mince - less than 12% I think it is - so I don't have fatty dishes.

Though I'm revising my use of sausages. When I cook them on the grill they lose a ton of fat and so cooking them completely in the SC is counterproductive.

I did a Turkey Mince/cassoulet type of thing today.

Pre-soaked some flageolet beans overnight. Brought to the boil this morning (for 10mins) and then simmered for half an hour.

Put into the SC with browned turkey mince, finely chopped onions, sliced carrots, tin of chopped tomatoes, dried mixed herbs, celery salt, bit of ground garlic, some chopped green bits from spring onion trimmings, chicken stock cube and veg stock cube and a little extra water. Served with some fusili pasta and went down a treat. Forgot that I had some courgettes in the bottom of the freezer or those would have gone in as well.

    thanx for this
it sounds easy enough, will try this.
with all the cider used, will this be ok for a 7 year old and then driving the next day??? (sorry if this is a silly question!!!!)

also i will put this receipe in my new document folder for s/c receipes, as with your others above!
    thank you

Probably not suitable for a 7 year old, although I did drain some of the liquid off and mix it with some veg stock, it was still very strongly flavoured of Cider, guess you could use less cider and a bit more veg stock. Also my house smelt of cider for a couple of days! hehehehe

I got two rather large cooking apples and peeled them, cored them and chopped them into big slices, threw some of a 500ml bottle of cider in the bottom of the slow cooker and them put the apples in, then I added lean pork steaks, and 1 chopped onion, some mushrooms, one leak and the rest of the bottle of cider, i also mixed in one vegtable stock cube.

Added seasoning once cooked, yummy. Although the house smelt of cider for a day or two. Would be interesting to see anyone elses take.

(by the way i dont know the capacity of my slow cooker, except i reckon it could feed 8 easily, the ingredients above about half filled mine)
