This has reminded me of how nice this is with just normal coke - We normally only do it at christmas but I think I might just have to have a go sooner. Never done it in the slow cooker so that should be interesting.

I tried that a few days ago, and my dad originally hated the idea but now loves it. So as gammon is half price at co-op, i'm trying a variation

  • I've got 4 rabbit legs in mine today with 2 chopped carrots, 2 slices of chopped swede, 1 chopped yellow pepper, one large chopped onion, garlic, a glug of left over lager (from freezer), 2 chopped tomatoes (from freezer), 4 sliced mushrooms, mixed herbs, 1 teaspoon of tumeric, 4 tablespoons of red lentils, a veg stock cube and enough water to just cover. Smells good I havn't had rabbit for ages.

I have rice pudding in mine.

I'm overstocked on milk as we were away for the weekend and brought some milk back with us plus we had the usual double delivery from the milkman (he doesn't deliver Wednesdays).

Added a tin of evaporated milk as well as it caramelises as it cooks.

    Hi there,
We've had chicken & bacon with sweet potatoes, fresh chiilies, garlic, tomatoes, mushrooms. Served with creamy mashed potato. Was yummy.

  • Hi all. I've just been looking at some of your recipes and they look soo yummy. My dilema is this. I'm looking at buying one of the £10 tesco slow cookers for a number of reasons. First of all, I think my kids are sick of eating the same things, and secondly, I'm just the worst chef in the world, and so didn't think I should start out buying anything expensive as I haven't a clue what I'm doing. I wondered if anyone had any suggestions as to what I could cook in this, how long it would take, etc?? Thanks :)

I have some lambs liver and kidneys in the freezer, how do i cook it best in the s/c. Before when i've tried it in the oven the smell had been so horrible I have had to throw it away.
    Any advice much appreciated.

Second try with mine today: base of onions cut into eighths, carrots, sweet potato and a tin of tomatoes, fresh thyme and rosemary, two stock cubes and a splash of balsamic vinegar, then 8 lamb chops on top. Cooked on high for an hour, then low for about 8 hours. The sweet potato was a bit mushy, the rest was good. Didn't brown anything first and wondered if the chops would need to go in the main oven but they were fine and the meat fell off them (to the point of fishing little bits of bone out of the gravy, not so good).

Again, this just did three adults a bowl each, and a small second helping. Eldest and bf didn't have anything else, I used up a few runner beans with mine. Anything smaller than the 6.5 litre would have been hopeless. I'd fondly hoped to get supper, tomorrow's lunch and STILL some to freeze. It starts off full almost to the brim, perhaps I need to cram it down more.

I can't keep doing 'carrots, onions and meat'. Mince tomorrow, cottage pie unless DS makes lasagne, not a SC day. Thinking of trying chicken or pork in the crockpot on Thursday but with something that doesn't include carrots... lentils are on the shopping list and I'm going to try to use up carrots in a soup.
