Mine's the same. Did worry about it at first, but all works fine :D.

My biggest bugbear about mine is that there's no temperature control on it.

Fancy digital electronic timer but no temp control - how silly is that.

Edited to say - got *'scouse' in mine today - all ready for 'bommy night'! Will be served with pickled red cabbage and boiled beetroot. (My digestive system won't take pickled stuff these days so the boiled beeetroot is MINE)

*Scouse - shin beef, onions, leeks, carrots, celery, swede, parsnips, potatoes, soup/broth mix, dried mixed herbs all simmering away now with beef and veg stock cubes added. Suet herb dumplings will be added about an hour before serving up :D.
  • I've got a nice pork hock going in mine, with celery, carrots, onions, leeks, bay leaves, fresh thyme and majoram.

    :D

;) Felines are my favourite ;)
  • I've got red wine in mine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Steeping with mulled wine spices, ready to be warmed up for the fireworks tonight - Yippee!

    Have fun everyone,

    FE

Today I'm cooking spicy bean stew in the slow cooker. I've taken the advice from some of the other threads on this forum (mainly Mazb's thread ref feeding a family for £20 for a month - amazing!) and am bulking it out with red lentils, oatmeal and grated carrot. It looks too watery to me but the posts on that thread say that's needed because the lentils and oatmeal absorb the liquid as they cook. Time will tell...

Will be doing a chilli later on in the week - am going to make much more use of the slow cooker now winter is arriving!

Sounds delish SAVINGFOROZ, will you let us know how it turned out??

Will do, it is yummy normally but this is the first time I've tried it with the red lentils, oatmeal and grated carrot to bulk it out. I reckon if all goes well I may get 2-3 meals more out of it than I usually do.

Recipe for those interested - bottle of passata, 2 tins of butterbeans and 1 of green lentils or aduki beans, garlic, plus 3/4-1 teaspoon of chilli powder and the same of cayenne pepper, so really quick and simple! Could use any pulses but I love butterbeans and because they're so big they really bulk it out. Can be jazzed up by adding any suitable veg like carrots, celery etc.

You'd be welcome to come around for a glass if you live anywhere near me!

I put out a bottle of Amaretto and one of Brandy next to it, so people can add if they want to (love Amaretto in mine, but I know some people don't like it).

It works really well - The SC doesn't overheat the mulled wine and it is safer than leaving it on the hob.

I also use the SC if I'm doing hot dishes at parties, like bolognaise or chilli, as it keeps stuff warm without overheating or risk of burning, and guests can help themselves.

  • I keep my bread in mine as it's the right size and keeps the bread really fresh until I have to use it for it's proper function!
It's up to me now and nobody else.
