  • Steaming christmas puddings in mine today. these will then be going in my home made hampers for christmas presents! I spent days dealing with boiled dry pressure cookers last year, several valves and seals later I had wasted a huge amount of time and money. so much easier this year and I dont have to be in for the 8 hours they take to steam!
My slow cooker is about the only kitchen gaget that DH has agreed was worth buying as it saves time and money (unlike all the others that sit in the cupbourd never getting used).

    ARRRRGHHHHHHHHHHH

Went to put my chilli in the SC, only to realise after I had browned the mince I had all the ingredient bar tinned tomatoes and mister has taken the pushchair to work in the car with him

I've flung a jar of bolognese sauce in that was lurking in the cupboard and in a huff decided we are having slow cooked jarred bolognese :rotfl:

    Chilli tomorrow instead then :o

All these things sound so nice but I am so paranoid about the safety of leaving it all day when I am at work :(

I assume you leave the fridge and freezer on while you are out and these are more likely to cause a fire than a slow cooker.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

Steak and kidney casserole with carrots, in mine today.

Got some really cheap, reduced beef kidneys at Sainsburys and a piece of stewing beef. Carrots and onions from my veg box.

Going to make some cobbler or dumplings to go on top.

Veg soup going on the hob and swede and carrots have been cooked and mashed, spinach and chard cooked and chopped, cabbage going to be cooked this evening.

    :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

;) Felines are my favourite ;)

I have to admit I was quite scared when I read that you shouldn't put milk in SC, as I added to the pork and mushroom mix yesterday. I could see that at the edges of the sauce it started to 'brown'. As I only used 5 fl oz of milk I guess it was a lucky escape, but the sauce was very thick and rich. Kids weren't over the moon, so I'll put it down to experience.

I make yoghurt alot in mine and didn't realise it was a problem  No issues so far apart from some 'tidemarks' if I have left it too long.

Sarahsaver - I would like to try rice pudding - my SC is 3.5 litres - can't find a recipe for that size pot and I'm not great at guesstimating - especially if I leave it on all day whilst at work:eek: !

    Any suggestions?

  • My Nan's just given me a small slow cooker she won at the bingo, but its got no instructions with it but i think it holds about 1.5/2 pints of liquid and has settings 1 to 4. I've no idea how to use it lol!

I'm a truly awful cook and was hoping to make something nice (easy!) for the other half for tea on Saturday, can anyone help me out with a idiot proof recipie for Stew and dumplings,

    Thanks
