I found some diced beef in my bf's freezer :j
So I have browned that, fried a chopped onion, chopped some carrots, parsnips and swede and boiled them for 10 mins (they were a bit hard last time I made stew in my SC) and added some beef bovril stock, tomato puree, lee and perrins. It's all bubbling away (hopefully, I'm at work) and will be served with cheesy mash and peas.
    I'm starving already!

    Mortgage-free Glee!
Cooked lamb liver casserole yesterday - I had got the liver with my half Sussex lamb I ordered and wasn't sure what to do with it. I used a recipe I picked up from my Mum's cookbook and it was lovely and very easy - softened onions and cooked bacon in pan, add into slow cooker, fry off liver lightly both sides (3 mins) and add to slow cooker, add chopped mushrooms, pint chicken stock, tablespoon of soy sauce, two tablespoons of flour.

Cooked for two hours on high.

Really yummy and didn't need any seasoning as the bacon and soy added to the flavour.

Tonight, it's beef stew similar to LowRob's recipe - just right for the cold night temperature!
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D

I cooked a gorgeous rice pudding in the slow cooker at the weekend, oooh it turned out gorgeous - even DH loved it. I will definately be adding this onto my list to cook when I have an abundance of milk in :)

All these things sound so nice but I am so paranoid about the safety of leaving it all day when I am at work :(

Once you get past that you will find a whole new ease on your life :T

I always make sure it's in the middle of the counter, preferably on a glass work top saver, nothing touching it and I have yet to have a problem or hear of anyone else having something go wrong. It won't overcook as the water has nowhere to evap too :D

Gooooooooooooo on give it a try ;)

For your first couple of attempts, I would use it while you're at home all day. That way you will build up your confidence in what it does and how it works for what you want to cook in it.

Then you could, perhaps, put a meal on for a couple of hours and go out shopping - when you come back your meal will be ready.

Think of it as a bit like getting to trust a teenager to do what you want them to do :D. First off you watch them to make sure they know what is expected of them; THEN you trust them on their own for a short time. Before you know where you are, you are trusting them for a full week while you go away on holiday.

Oooops  maybe THAT wasn't a particularly good analogy - but you know what I mean ;) !
