Pea and Ham soup is now on the go. The remainder of the stock from cooking the shank yesterday with a box of pre-soaked peas, some yellow split peas, some soup/broth mix, some lentils and going to add some onions in a minute.

Needed to warm the stock a little as it was so chilled that it was setting like a jelly (helps when using a SC not to have liquids too cold if possible).

Don't have a set recipe for this, just cook and taste as it goes :D.

Yesterday's shank stew went down a treat - DS1 (35 and lives with g/f) came by, had a sniff and decided he was staying for tea. Went home 2 bowlfuls later - hope he can explain to her why he wasn't hungry last night!
  • Was tempted to try the much recommended Caribbean chicken, but fancy chicken curry. Thrown a concotion in from various recipes - onions, chopped apple, 4 chicken breast cubed, 2 tsp(ish) medium curry powder, 3/4 pt of chicken stock, dash of tomato puree and a little extra garlic.

Hope DS's like it as they are not a fan of the curry sauce jar flavours - think they all taste the same.

Can bribe them with some highly recommended Aunt Sallys Apple Cake that I found on the OS forum earlier this week :)

Morning, i'm new to the whole slow cooking experience as i have just been bought a MR one for an early christmas pressie by my nan :D

I have put in mine for dinner today:

Mince, carrots, onions, swede, beef stock, not sure whether to put potatoes in or cook seperately and mash them!
I know it's boring in comparrison to what u professionals cook but i will get there!:rotfl:

A cheapie stew for us today.

I've got potatoes, carrots, onions and leeks in there now starting to cook. I added lots of black pepper, a bay leaf, two beef stock cubes and a good dash or worcester sauce for flavour. I'll brown some mince and add it later when I've plucked up the courage to go out to the freezer (it's in the garage) as it's so cold outside today. :D

This is more of a question (hope its not in the wrong place).
Can you do pork ribs (like spare ribs) in the SC ?
    If so how ?
    Thanks a lot.

(PS I love my SC but need some inspiration- the carribean chick sounds lovely).

Fried onions, a red chilli & ginger then added loads of different spices (cumin, corriander, mustard seeds, paprika, a clove, peppercorns - more but cant remember), wochester sauce and a tin of chopped tomatoes.
Threw it all in the slow cooker with some chicken thighs(skin removed but bones left in), put to high until started bubbling, turned to low & hope to eat tonite at 7ish. Maybe have to put it on high/med when get in at 5.30.
Made before and was delish - had no garlic though so not sure if it will really miss it, hope not. Cant wait.

Lamb Shanks in Red Wine in ours today - browned the lamb all over and popped in the sc. Browned sliced onions &garlic in a little oil & lamb juices left in pan and added carrots sliced thinly. Then 150ml red wine (a cheap Merlot that I keep for cooking - DH gets gout and cannot drink red wine, but has been OK when I've put it in casseroles etc) and 300ml lamb stock (from a cube) and a bouquet garni. Set on Low and it smelled amazing when I left for work (although not really a "breakfasty" smell LOL!)
