Bleugh to caribbean chicken effort, really didn't like it, too much liquid too sweet, obviously no soy sauce had an effect.
Need to try something less fussy methinks.

Shame about that DC as I do like the recipe and have made it a couple of times now... maybe try again with soy sauce and Worcester sauce as they do balance it out more :o The more you make it the quicker you get too! I don't plan to have it toooooooo often though due to the amount of cornflour but as an occasional sweet and sour sort of thing I found it was nice as a treat.

  • ...in my slow cooker today.. I have 2 turkey legs with onion, carrots, celery and herbs making a delicious stock for soups. I got 2 turkey legs from asda at £1.27 each and cut all the meat off (enough for a curry for the 4 of us) and the rest went in the pot. OH had to hack them down a bit with a hammer so they would fit in though!

Hi ...yes you should brown the sausage first as it stops them going that werd colour/texture! I make a sausage casserole using 1 pack of sausages, a couple of sweet potatoes, couple of onions, a few carrots ,a tin of toms and a tin of baked beans. First brown the sausages in a frying pan. Chop all your veg and throw it in the sc. When sausages are nicely browned add to sc. Add beans and tomatoes ,salt and pepper, mixed herbs and a good splash of lea and perrins , add some stock (just enough to cover ) switch sc on and leave for about 8 hours . I usually o this at 9 am'ish and its ready by 4/5pm. Its yummy and you can add any veg you like! This will do a 3.5lt sc full and make us 2 family meals for 5!! (I usually chop up the sausage cos I am tight/frugal lol!!)

Have just made this casserole for the first time and it smells absolutely yummy. I was just wondering what to serve it with. Any ideas anyone?

Used my slow cooker for the first time this week and made Cinnamon Apple Butter for my OH. I had brought him 2 jars whilst in America and he is addicted to it - so I gave it a bash, and it has turned out great, even if I do say so myself :D.

Am now on a roll and currently have a turkey leg, lentils, onions and curry sauce bubbling away. Can anyone tell me when I should add the mushrooms & peppers. I didn't put them in at the beginning as I seem to remember someone saying they go a bit 'slimy'. And do I add them raw or cooked? Thanks in advance.

Think I'd be tempted to leave out some of the juice from the pineapple/peaches next time, and maybe use boneless chicken stips. This may sound silly but visually it looked gorgeous going in, and not so good coming out !!

  • in my slowcooker yesterday was chicken stock which is now frozen in plastic milk cartons! my question is...i want to make a chilli (without the kidney beans) as i really like the flavours but i can't tollerate a lot of heat so have never been brave enough to make it myself...many recipies state an amount of chilli powder and say add more or less to taste but i don't know how it will taste with the stated amount!!has anyone got a simple mild but really tasty chilli recipe they would like to share with a beginner??have a family who would be most grateful!:j
  • Reading this is making me very excited about the new slow cooker I ordered. I used to have one (second hand from my grandma) but I managed to break it and didn't replace it. Now I've decided I will definately get a lot of use from one and am awaiting delivery eagerly!
