Does anyone have a slow cooker that looks like this one and if so, what are the benefits of this kind to the normal ones?

    Ta.

I used to have one like this. It was fine, I think the bowl could also be used on hob/in oven although can't remember. I got rid of mine and upgraded to a larger one. I found it odd that it only had two heat setings - ON or OFF :D I just did all recipes as if it was on LOW setting. I also used mine plugged in sitting on the dining table so everyone could help themselves. HTH

Buy your bananas in bunches of 5 on Sunday. Then arrange them in order of ripeness and write a day of the week on each banana in felt pen, Monday on the ripest, Friday on the greenest to save time making those decisions on a hectic weekday morning

    Thanks for the info.

I saw one on ebay and wondered what could be so different about it.

Hi, i thought i would add to this interesting thread
In my slow cooker today - i put some diced beef, mushrooms and peppers, 1 can of tomato soup, and the same amount of water.(i cant give amounts as i never weigh anything, i just guess!!) kept stiring throughout the day, and keeping topped up with water. 1 hour before serving i added a beef oxo cube and enough pasta for the family. and then served with garlic bread,

it is great to hear over people's recipes and ideas on here. :)

Hi, just thought I'd mention I bought my first ever slow cooker from Asda yesterday. Its an own brand 3.5 ltr and it was only £7, so I'll be reading this thread to get some tips and recipes. Bargain I hope lol.

wow!! that is a bargain!!! thanks - the cheapest I could find was just under £10! is it an oval one?

that looks fab, let me know how you get on. If it turns out good i'll give it a go :D

Got back from work earlier and i was determined to make the chocolate cake, eventhough i didnt have all the right ingredients so i thought i would use what i had.

white sugar instead of brown and not enough milk (i need some for my coffee tomorrow :D ) so i used an egg and some milk.

Overall - not bad, slightly burnt on top but chocolate sauce does work though the pudding :) think i should have used half an egg

I have just set off my SC as I am now off to do a night shift. In it I have 6 Irish beef steaks (one tray) - special offer in Asda 3 trays for £10. Also, 3 carrots diced, 1 large onion, chopped green beans (given by neighbours), broad beans (my garden but plants given), 4 large mushrooms sliced, 1 tablespoon each of barley and black lentils, 4 tablespoons red lentils (should thicken it), beef stock cube (Asda smart price), chopped red and green pepper, garlic and chilli seasoning (B&M bargain), glug of red wine (left from 2 nights ago), glug of balsamic vinegar pinch of mixed herbs and just enough water to cover. Hoping to come home to at least 6 portions of beef casserole with remainder as beef and veg soup. Will have one portion for my dinner and rest for the freezer.

Does anyone warm up their slow cooker before placing the food in there?

I have never heard of it before but was just reading a review of one that someone bought from Lakeland. It says it is rec to fill it with water and turn onto the high setting to warm the crock before use.
