In my slow cooker today...

there was a slightly metallic taste to the sauce which at first I thought might have been from the tin foil but I think was probably the beer.
Quick question, i did jacket potatoes in there wrapped in tin foil and on the little rack above the meat and sauce, they cooked through but the skins were soggy and not very nice, worse than if done in the microwave. Is there a way to avoid this or is it just what happens if you slow cook jacket spuds???
Slow cooking is all about gently steaming/simmering so I find the idea of jacket potatoes in a SC bizarre. Also the metallic flavour must have come from the foil surely? You wouldn't get it from any beer.0 -
ok this is a new one for me - an american recipe i think!
i have a layer of sauteed onions and mushrooms on the bottom, followed by pork chops - boneless, coated in a flour, thyme, sage, salt and pepper mix, that i then lightly fried off in butter.
i have a sort of beef consomme (cooked far too quickly to be a proper one!) with worcester sauce, and finally sprinkled over the top some paprika, thyme and nutmeg!!
:eek: oh dear i hope its nice!

I've got pork casserole made up of diced new potatoes, pork, carrots, red pepper and onion topped off with a packet pork casserole sauce. Hope it's tasty!!

I have a total love/hate relationship with this thread! It makes me soo hungry I am almost drooling at my desk! I really am going to invest in a slow cooker when I get paid. The thought of going home and cooking is killing me.Lynzie Lou :dance:0

Marinading in the fridge ready to go in tomorrow is some lamb pieces (marinading in mint and chilli) and tomorrow's experimental dish is going to be lamb in stout (to be eaten with rice and peas
)
