I've got diced/cubed chicked, tin of tomatoes with chilli, peas, sweetcorn, onions, couple cloves of garlic, various spicy spices & a bit of water. See how it turns out. Plus I'll be able to freeze it, & use on other days. But only if it turns out ok though0

The coca cola chicken was indeed a disaster. I thought the coke was supposed to become like bbq sauce
I still served the chicken to my kids with veg and potatoes and they actually really liked it. They prefer no sauce and it tasted quite sweet. I didn't like it though.
No SC meal tonight. Just leftovers from the freezer.Need to start again0 -
Oh no thats a shame - glad it wasnt just me tho!
My SC has washing up liquid and water intodayEmma
Aug GC - £88.17/£130
NSD - target 18 days, so far 5!!0 -
I cooked chicken thighs with HG carrots, thyme and a little water in my newish SC last night- I think I overcooked the chicken though- it was tender but quite dry after 5 hours on slow. I was a bit disappointed but I'll try chicken again perhaps for less time or maybe I'll use chicken legs next time.
I think it'll take a while to get used to how long everything takes to cook- I suspect my SC is relatively hot even on the low setting.0 -
I want to make a kind of chinese chicken tomorrow. I have chicken thighs, ginger, garlic, soy sauce errr honey - will it be okay if I just chuck it all in with some water?:beer:0

using your slow cooker is just a case of try it and see. I can honestly say I have had nothing that wasn't really edible.
One of my favourites is a gammon joint to which I add a bag of split peas (soaked overnight), or a bag of marrowfat peas (soaked overnight), or a bag of chick peas (again soaked overnight). To this I always add onions and whatever veg I have, in particular anything that needs using up and herbs and spices. I never cook the gammon/bacon/ham shank on its own as it's just as cheap to cook pulses and veg along with it. This can be frozen in portions and used as a base for soups and casseroles or as it comes out of sc. Sometimes a gammon joint can be a little salty but this can be absorbed by adding potatoes to it.0 -
Was the Coca-cola chicken recipe designed for the Slow Cooker?
I only ask because a friend of mine used to do this many years ago in the oven (Coca-cola and a bottle of ketchup turned into some kind of barbecue sauce) and it always turned out great. Was just thinking that if it wasn't a Slow Cooker recipe, then maybe the liquid didn't evaporate as it normally would.

That could certainly have been the problem. I don't think I added enough ketchup either. I think I'll just stick to bbq sauce next time though. Maybe some of that reggae reggae stuff (yum)
Today I have, chicken breast, tinned tomatoes, potatoes, curry powder, mango chutney and apple simmering away
I've had this before and know it's lovely served with some wholegrain rice.Need to start again0 -
I've just been given a slow cooker by my OH's parents
One of those infomercial things came on the tele, thinking of all the good things you lot have been saying about them, I said 'I'd quite like a slow cooker' and they said they had one that they never used so I could take it :j
Just copy and pasted loads of recipes into a word folder, ready to write down for my recipe file, can't wait to get started!D'you know, in 900 years of space and time, I've never met anyone who wasn't importantTaste The Rainbow :heartsmil0
