I have two lamb shanks, onions, carrots, garlic and red wine vinegar. Any ideas as to how best to cook it in my slow cooker?

I am thinking brown the shanks in frying pan and sweat off chopped onion, carrots, garlic and celery with some butter. Add sweated veg to slow cooker, put lamb shanks on top, pour over about a cup of red wine vinegar (maybe some balsamic too) and chuck in a glass of red wine. How does that sound?

That sounds delicious! My tummy's rumbling. There is no need to cook the veg first, although prebrowning meat adds colour.

sounds lishious , i cook with balsamic vinager adds a lovely taste and tendrises and browns , i would have put some of the veg at the bottom then the shanks then the rest of the veg then the red wine vinegar,

ive done a cubed lamb curry ...3.5ltr pot
little oil at the bottom, lazy garlic, curry powder, chopped onions, meat on top
cubed potatoes, good splash balsamic vinager, black pepper , tomato ketchup good splash, more onions 1/2 cup of water,2 tablespoons of pataks tikka masala paste ...on high for 1hr then turn to low ..four about 4-5 hrs ...served on a bed of rice , with naan.....sunday is now mine ...
Don't sweat the small stuff, Its all small stuff.

Doesnt take long either maybe two or three hours. I doubled the recipe and served eight with leftovers for another few meals.

  • I have Nigella Lawsons' Coca-Cola chicken in there today.

I've never done it before, so no idea how it may turn out!!! I hope it's okay because I have two hungry kids to feed as soon as I get in the door.
    Need to start again :o

  • Hi all

I had 2 gammon steaks (£1 in B & M) chopped, bag of chick peas soaked overnight, onion, bag of mixed frozen peppers (chopped myself and mixed on shopping day), mushrooms (frozen before gone off), 2 tomatoes (also frozen before gone off), carrot, seasoning, veg stock cube, tumeric, shake of garam masala and mixed herbs. Lovely. Made enough for one to take to work tonight, one for tomorrow and 6 portions for the freezer.
