I have a lovely chilli con carne in the slow cooker today - perfect for the horrible weather outside! Must now decide whether to serve with baked spuds or rice. Decisions, decisions...0

Sometimes things can be cooked faster, but without you needing to be there. You might want to put something on while you're out doing school runs in the afternoon, for example. This won't work with everything, but it will work with lots of things.
Also sometimes recipes call for the food to be heated a bit at the end to steam off extra liquid, or to melt some cheese on top, or similar, and that would be done on the high setting.0 -
Hi lab-lover, always put potatoes in first - at the bottom as they take the longest to cook. I guess you could use any potatoes really, I'm just lazy and chuck in a small tin!
Am going to do sausage casserole today, having read so many posts of what people are doing lately - will have to chuck frozen sausages in the oven now though & cook them slowly, slowly - else it'll never be ready for tonight! :eek:Just done the big food shop. Iam doing beef casserole, will I ticken with cornflour about half an hour from end? Am doing double amount and going to put second lot in fridge for sat or sunday. Thanks
Just to win anything would be great!!0 -

Does Rice Pudding count lol
I have had my slow cooker for about 6wks and it is this thread that makes me brave enough to use it tbh. Tomorrow is going to be my 3rd attempt at mastering the SC and I am trying out the Rice pudding recipe kindly supplied in the previous page. It is the shortest cooking time I have attempted so far.
p.s I cooked chicken in my slow cooker for about 8hrs on high and I think that was way too long so I think you do have to get used to adapting the recipes.DEBT FREE AND LOVING LIFE0 -

Copied these from other postings but as with any recipe that takes my fancy I just kept a copy in a word document now don't know who posted
Rice Pudding
2.5 litre cooker
25g butter
100g pudding rice
100g sugar
1 litre milk
4.5 litre
40g butter
150g pudding rice
150g sugar
1 1/2 litre milk
Butter inside of Crockpot. Add all ingredients. Cook on med for 3-4 hours.
I find i leave mine for longer depending on the thickness you require.
****
Pudding rice 125 grams
Sugar 75 grams
1 1/2 litres milk
I boiled the milk first on the normal hob and then added the rice and brought it to the boil again and simmered for about 10 minutes. I then transferred it to the SC and added the sugar, grated some nutmeg over the top and cooked it on low for about 6 hours. There are some people on here that cook it straight in the SC, as this was my first time I did it this way. Not sure whether or not you could freeze it, hopefully someone can help us out. This made 4 very large portions.
