i'm soo excited I collected my ebay bargin (£4.21) SWAN 6.5L sc this morning and at lunchtime I chucked in 500g mince, 2 tins toms (value of course) onion carrots and red lentils herbs and garlic spice put it on the high setting and went shopping not knowing what to expect when i got back - well 5 hours later it looks fab and smells lovely (not sure what family will think of lentils - first time of use but you can't really see them ) and I reckon there will be enough for freezing several individual portions for work lunches next week - that is a first!!!

Overnight I am going to cook beef stew so we can eat at 1 - I am soo excited until i read the threads on here i never realised you could cook joints in them aswell so gone are the days when I get home for work and there is nothing for tea ( well I hope)

i did a turykey leg in my sc yesterday the first time.
but it takes rather long and after 4 hours on high i took it out and removed all the meat off the bone and chucked it all in again (with cans of tom, carrots, leek, spices)
was a nice stew on a cold day :T

I've just cooked a large turkey drumstick in mine, I chucked it in with some onions, frozen carrots (I've got some that don't cook well for some reason so I put them in earlier than I would do normally), a chicken stock cube, some water and a couple of shakes of mixed herbs. After a few hours (bit of a false start as I didn't put the lid on properly ) I chucked a few handfuls of pearl barley in and then after four hours or so maybe a bit more, I scraped the meat off the leg, I didn't take the leg out just got at it with a spoon and fork and I've got a really nice looking stew.

Another time I might take the leg out and convert the turkey/veggie stuff to soup and then eat the turkey meat as "roast" turkey.

  • I bought a SLow Cooker from Tesco's on Friday, first one ever! Good job I did as the door fell off of my oven! And the gas isn't working on the hob either so no cooker at all

So Yesterday I put in the slow cooker:

    6 chicken pieces - BOGOF in Tesco's
    Mushrooms - value ones
Celery - on offer in Tesco's
Carrots - organic - on offer in Tesco's
    Red Onion
Coq au Vin mix which was lurking in the cupboard
And it was absolutely wonderful had it with fresh bread - bought not made sadly but after reading lots of different threads on here will get breadmaker out of loft.
Keep it up everyone I love MSE:j

One of the Asda £2 chickens today. Gammon joint yesterday,

Finished the chicken off in the oven for a hour breast side down. Yummy,

Still one breast and two thighs and other dark meat left so enough for a couple of more meals :j

Better not say that I have another 5 of them. But one is going up to my mothers today got her freezer. That might last them one meal with the size portions she serves up to my dad :rotfl:

    Yours

  • I have split pea and ham soup

Yesterday I put 3 large bacon ends (the butcher didn't have hocks, and looked at me funny when I asked for some) in to cook with plain water. I let that cook, then took the meat out (yummmy quiche with that later) and cooled the stock. Skimmed the fat off, and put it in the slow cooker with 3 grated carrots, half a pack of soaked split peas and a small peeled potato.

As we've been out, its been on for 24 hours on low and the whole house smells of wholesome yumminess like my Grandma's.

Blitz in a sec (when I get off here) add back a little of the cooled ham and serve with crusty bread.

    Enough for 6

My slow cooker is having its first use today. I have diced braising steak, carrots, leeks, parsnip, swede, potatoes, stock cube, salt pepper and water in there. Its been going for about 6 hours now ans smells lovely. Not quite ready yet tho, veg are still a little al dente. So easy to chuck everything in there and leave, much better than messing about with saucepans on the cooker etc.

Going to search old style threads for some recipes ...............
