Can I join in:D
I have been a looong time lurker and got some great ideas from here but am now plucking up the courage to post.
In my cooker I have:
600g stewing steak
1 large diced onion
salt and pepper
2 tins of tomatoes (value of course)
1 tbs tomato puree
1 bay leaf
chopped garlic clove
2 tbs smoked paprika
just before serving I will add a handful of sliced mushrooms and serve on some buttered tagliatelle I discovered lurking at the back of my cupboard.
Also making a banoffee pie and will use some of the cream left over from the topping with a little lemon juice added to sour it and top the goulash with that
Phew, finally after 18 months I was brave enough to post :eek:0 -

Thanks Kelitots
Im actually feeling rather pleased with myself since discovering this forum. My average shop at Mr Ts used to average £120 per week :eek:. Now I am a Lidl hardcore fanatic and only use Mr T for things I absolutely cannot get so my weekly shop is now down to approx £ 40. I do slip at times as I am out of the house for 12 hours a day and sometimes just cant get organised0 -
Thanks Kelitots

This forum is wonderful, it has made me seriously think through my finances and I am proud to be learning the OS waysalso planning how I can pay off my overdraft and get some SAVINGS behind me for once in my life!!

Pleased to report that Turkey leg cooked just fine (but I am going to buy a cheap junior hacksaw to keep in my kitchen drawer, and woe betide DH if it ends up in HIS toolbox like most of MY DIY tools.....).
Meat fell off the bone, so I chopped it up and put back in SC with 2 packets Mr A's SP Golden Veg Rice, made up the 'soup stock' to the right volume with water and SC on High for an hour.
It was lovely! I only bought the packets of rice stuff as we were going camping this w/e, but now we're not going so thought I'd use them up, but I can see me buying some again now! Whole meal cost about £2.00 and did 4 decent servings. The best advice you can give your children: "Take responsibility for your own actions...and always Read the Small Print!"

Oooh! Also meant to tell you that my SC cookbook arrived from Green Metropolis yesterday......
Tomorrow I am going to try Beef Lasagne in the SC, a la 'real food from your slo cooker' recipe (with added lentils & oats of course - a la MSE - LOL!). We're DIYing in the morning then DH is at Footie in the afternoon and I'm studying, so will be good to have a nice meal ready for when he gets home without having to keep getting up from my assignment and losing my thread!
Will let you know on Monday how it turns out.....
Have a good weekend everyone!

Have to cook for the elderly lady my mum cares for tomorrow so planning on doing a white wine and cream chicken in the slow cooker. I'll chop up a couple of chicken breasts and slow cook in white wine with tarragon, and a couple of lemon halves. Might put some zest in too. Maybe a splash of concentrated chicken stock.
Then in the morning I'll put in asparagus, carrots, courgettes and runner beans, and shortly before serving some single cream.
Fingers crossed, I tend to make recipes up as I go along!Weight loss to date - 8st 13lbs :j0 -

Your Lasagne done in the slow cooker will be fine, the only bit I used to have a problem with is getting the pasta sheets to fit my oval dish:rolleyes: As no ones see them I now just break big bits up of pasta and arrange round the edges. With mine (don't know whether yours will be the same) I add a bit more liquid as I find it can dry up a but more than doing it in the oven
Anyway today in my SC I have a beef stew type thing! Lots of veggies from the garden, runner beans again, carrots etc..with about £2.00 worth of stewing beef, found in the freezer, it will be served with dumplings and HM crusty bread.

Started off as planned, 2 cubed happy chicken breasts, 1/2 bottle of white wine, tarragon, zest of 1 lemon, and remainder of lemon plonked in cut in half. Added a dollop of chicken stock concentrate and switched on low around 11.30pm.
8.30am removed the lemon halves, and added asparagus, carrots, courgettes, mange tout and french beans. Added enough water to nearly cover, and another dollop of chicken stock concentrate.
12.00noon added 2 heaped tspoons of cornflour in water, and 2/3 small tub of single cream, and whacked on high for 30 minutes. Seasoned to taste.
Oh. My. God it was soooo yum. Made 3 good sized portions, so the lady it was for had one, my OH had one, and theres one in the freezer
Certainly wasn't a cheap meal, the happy chicken alone was £3, but I was given £20 for ingredients and my time, so worked out good for me!Weight loss to date - 8st 13lbs :j0
