I been playing with my slow cooker to use up bits and pieces and have just made a batch of Chutney. Have had success with cheesecake in the past. Would be interested to hear what else other people have tried.

Was that an Oprah moment for you? :rotfl:

I must admit, it was a huge shock the first time I came home and caught him wearing blue tights with his red underpants on top. I was terribly upset, but he explained that was who he was and it made him happy, so, you know, I accepted it.

In my slowcooker today - sausage casserole AGAIN - because last week's was such a big success with my superhero.

Hi all, my slow cooker arrived last wk and I'm using it for the first time tomorrow :j

I'm making Paprika Beef from the MR instruction book.

Just realised that I bought braising steak instead of stewing steak doh :o

Will it matter? I've not used either before!

    Thanks

    Lucy

No Lucy, it shouldn't make any difference - they are all the less tender bits of the beast which should be cooked slowly, and are ideal for slow cooking;)

Hi, it was madcook at post #1723 who mentioned cheesecake (yum!), so perhaps they wouldn't mind pointing both of us in the right direction! :D

My dear ole mummy bought me the MR 6.5ltr one for an early birthday present yesterday (very early I might add!)...wanted to keep it simple and didn't have much in so I've chucked in some pork loin chop things, couple of tins of toms, onion and garlic. I'm hoping it will be okay to season it when I get in as I didn't have any seasoning in the cupboard (got salt and pepper, nothing else). Plus thought I might add some chick peas? Would it be okay to season at the end and chuck the CP's in and heat it through in a saucepan when I get in?

Here is the Cheese Cake Recipe.

When I did it I used a biscuit base, single cream to cut the fat and lemon juice. But basically its using the slow cooker as a bain marie or double boiler works for converting condensed milk to toffee for banoffe pie, no chance of the pan boiling dry. If you want to try the toffee cover can with water and leave on high I normally leave it overnight though probably would take less time, I might measure it next time, you could do more than one can and keep it.

    Cheese Cake Recipe
    Cake Base
    50g (2oz) butter
    50g (2oz) sugar
    50g (2oz)SR Flour
    1 Egg

    Pre-heat the slow-cooker if necessary.
Line base of 18cm (7 in) round cake tin (Not loose bottomed) with non-stick
Beat all cake ingredients together in bowl, mixer or food processor until smooth
Spoon and smooth in tin cover with knife
Stand cake tin on upturned saucer/biscuit cutter and cover with boiling water half up the side of the tin and cook for 1 hour High.

    Mean while make the cheesecake
    CheeseCake
    300g (10 oz ) full-fat cream cheese
    200ml (7 oz) full-fat creme fraiche
    50g (2oz) caster sugar
    3 eggs beaten
    1 tsp vanilla essence
mixed berry fruits (Optional to decorate)

Put cream cheese, creme fraiche and sugar in bowl. Gradually mix in eggs until smooth and stir in vanilla.

Carefully lift cake tin out. Sponge should be dry able to be pressed with finger tip.
Pour cheesecake mixture on top cover loosely with foil and Cook 2 Hours High or until the cheesecake if firm.

Switch off the slow-cooker and leave to cool. Cheesecake may sink. Chill overnight.

Dust with icing sugar and serve with fruits

Found them! Woo hoo - thanks!

I found them in Sainsburys this weekend too just after I'd bought cornflour in Wilkos

Tried them in my sausage casserole (must try something new next but I do love it lol :D) and they worked brilliantly.

    Thanks for the tip!!!!
