Someone on this thread has tried coke (will have a scout for link) but the more traditional method would be either water or cider (or even apple juice). Shouldnt need salt cos gammon quite salty anyway.
Heres a couple of links (hope they work its a very long thread!)

Just put a piece of beef - toprump, which was being sold as 'Rump Steak' in Asda - hubby used to be a butcher
. One potato, carrots, onions, leek, pearl barley and stock. Only just got my MR slow cooker from Asda - £25, so we'll see how it goes - it is HUGE, so think I'll be doing lots of batch cooking and freezing..........

Hi i have been watching all your posts for a while now so thought I would stop by and let you know what I am cooking.
Tonight I have got a carrot cake in my sc so fingers crossed that it will work!
Cooked a chicken in the sc and have managed to get eight main meals, a big pot of soup, two dinners for the dog and some fat balls for the birds so I am feeling very proud of myself
Cooked a gammon joint in it last weekend and was gutted when my flat mate threw out the water the meat had been cooking in. Had great plans for a big pot of lentil soup   :grouphug:0 -
