Yes, you can leave it cooking while you're at work. No, it's not dangerous.
If you're uncertain, use it a few times at the weekends first. You'll peer in regularly the first time or two you use it, occasionally the next time or two, and then soon you'll be like the rest of us, who toss stuff in, turn it on and think "thank goodness I don't need to think about dinner - it's done!" :-D0 -

Thank you! That's a good idea - a weekend test! I'll be gathering some recipes from here and trying it out.
Actually, if I could cheekily ask for a little more advice... there is only two of us here - what kind of size should I be looking at for a slow cooker? I haven't bought one yet but don't want to waste money on a massive one that isn't suitable for us.0 -
Meatballs done, portioned and frozen.
Got cut up turkey breast (whoopsied), carrot and swede, gravy, tinned toms, worcestershire sauce and seasoning in there now, to be portioned up for the freezer tooWeight loss to date - 8st 13lbs :j0 -
swannee_D - I have chicken and chorizo stew(?) in my slow cooker today.
I used the recipe a couple of weeks ago for the first time and enjoyed it so much we're having it again tonight, but dont remember the chorizo being chewy. Let you know tomorrow how it is. Did the same as you, fried the chorizo off first.
Thanks MichH,
I used the chorizo that you buy in a horseshoe shape, already cooked I think, is this right? or should I have used uncooked chorizo, TIA Swan0 -
Hi all,
I'm interested in buying a slow cooker as I've been reading about them in a few threads
I think it will be great as I don't get home from work til almost 8 so it's usually too late to cook 'properly'
Any advice on how much they cost, and best buys?
I live with my boyfriend, so it's just the two of us but would be good to batch cook and freeze the meals.
Any advice is really appreciated
Thanks

lol I was worried first few times but it's perfectly safe, the whole idea is that you can just leave it and come home to a lovely home-made meal. I even leave mine on over-night and that is with my two babies in the house. xxMummy to two beautiful girls and one gorgeous boy.0 -

My mum and dad have a 3.5l one and they just freeze what they don't eat the first night or my dad takes some to work next day and just reheats, I think this is a more economical way of doing it, but you could certainly get a smaller one xMummy to two beautiful girls and one gorgeous boy.0 -

Ooh and another question, I leave for work at 7 and don't get back til 8. So if I put it on when I leave it will be on for 13 hours
Is that too long? Thinking maybe I should look for one that has a delayed start time?
Thanks for all your help!Addicted to MSE, I can't resist a bargain0
