My sausage casserole worked out well yest. Only used 3 sausages for 2 of us!!!!!!! Added leek, swede, pototo, carrot, stock cube and some haricot beans.
OH said it was the best ever despite it not looking the most pretty!!!0 -
In my slow cooker today is Scouse.
Consisting of stewing beef, potatoes, carrot & turnip, onions, veg & beef stock & salt & pepper. It smells delicious! I will serve it with a choice of pickled cabbage or beetroot & lots of crusty bread with butter on to mop up the soup - Im salivating just typing this - roll on tea time!0 -
I second that request! thanks in advance :-)
I put in onions and garlic, with aduki beans, potatoes, carrots, cauliflower and peas. For the sauce I used a tomato base/vegetable stock mix and then 1/2 jar of Pataks Rogan Josh curry paste. Filled my 3.5 litre slow cooker - cooked on low for 8-9 hours. Made enough for 4 large portions and tasted great. Hope this helps.Life is not a dress rehearsal.0 -

Can I ask how many posters on here use their slow cooker to prepare food for a person living on their own?
I have a large slow cooker (the biggest one I could find at the time!) that I use for making meals when I need to cook for 4-6 people or for me and my husband that will do us two nights. I don't have a big freezer so freezing is not an easy option for me.
Things have changed recently with my husband's job and he now eats lunch and dinner when he is at work, so I find I'm eating on my own a lot now.
I'm veggie and usually just fill the pot with tinned/dried beans & pulses plus some vegetables, etc. and let it all cook.
I did wonder about buying a much smaller slow cooker just for meals for one or two, but I thought I'd ask if posters use a big slower cooker to cook small portions?
Hope this makes sense - I seem to be rambling!
My understanding is that slow cookers work best if reasonably full, so if you're not batch cooking then perhaps a smaller 1.5 litre slow cooker may be the best option for you.Life is not a dress rehearsal.0 -
In mine today -
About 24 pork meatballs, 2 tins chopped tomatoes, 2 tin haricot beans, splash worcestershire sauce and cornflour to thicken.
Wish I'd browned the meatballs first though, they look a bit pathetic!
Batch cooking meals for me for in the freezer, that should do 8 meals.Weight loss to date - 8st 13lbs :j0 -
Hi, first post on here, wonder if anyone can help....made a chicken and chorizo casserole in the SC yesterday, was very nice , however the chorizo was very chewy, I fried it off first, so any ideas as to avoid chewy chorizo! TIA
swannee_D - I have chicken and chorizo stew(?) in my slow cooker today.
I used the recipe a couple of weeks ago for the first time and enjoyed it so much we're having it again tonight, but dont remember the chorizo being chewy. Let you know tomorrow how it is. Did the same as you, fried the chorizo off first.0 -

I'm considering a slow cooker, sorry if this question has been answered already (this thread is VERY long!), but do you guys leave it cooking while you're out at work? To use a slow cooker during the week I'd have to leave it going while at work and I'm not sure I could do it without my OCD tendencies kicking in!0

There is a very clever poster on here somewhere who puts her veggie meal (like a veggie loaf style dish) in a smallish casserole dish placed in a big slow cooker, then fills it with water till half way up and cooks potato chunks in the water at the same time as the veggie casserole. I do think that is ingenious! I haven't tried it yet myself but I certainly will."Remember that many of the things you have now you could once only dream of" - Epicurus0 -

That sounds like a really good idea! :T
Thanks also to savingforoz for your reply - I might keep an eye out for a smaller slow cooker on my local Gumtree!Numpties...I'm surrounded by them...save me...:whistle:0
