In my slow cooker today is ....
Pieces of whoopsied lamb
an onion
water and a teaspoon of mint sauce
No stock to put in....only beef and figured this might be a bit overpowering.
Not sure how it will turn out, but I don't like lamb anyway so won't be eating it! Smelt lovely when I popped home at lunchtime.
Will do some veg and mash with it later for DS2 & DH.Banana LoversBuy your bananas in bunches of 5 on Sunday. Then arrange them in order of ripeness and write a day of the week on each banana in felt pen, Monday on the ripest, Friday on the greenest to save time making those decisions on a hectic weekday morning0 -
Have just got my slow cooker out of the box to christen it, would I be right in thinking that I need the meat and veg covered in stock for it to cook, I have put chicken, pepper, onion ,carrot and a tin of chopped toms in, do you think I need some stock?Live on a little over £4k challenge

Probably not - you don't need much liquid in a slow-cooker because very little evaporates away. Between the tomatoes and the juices from the veg and chicken, you'll probably have enough liquid there. If you want to put in a little bit of stock (or wine or water or whatever), go ahead, but you certainly don't need to cover everything.0 -
Meatballs in mine today. I used 2lb of mince, 3 slices of bread made into crumbs, 1 onion and 2 eggs, herbs and salt and pepper. Formed them into balls, baked in oven for 10 mins on a baking sheet to brown, then popped in slow cooker with 4 cans of tomatoes, some garlic, tomato puree and more herbs and salt and pepper. Made enough for 4 for tea, plus 4 lots for the freezer which will each serve 3-4. Good stuff as I am pregnant at the moment and have more than my fair share of nights when I can't face cooking and need something easy from the freezer!0

First post on this thread for me, so hello everyone!
Can I ask how many posters on here use their slow cooker to prepare food for a person living on their own?
I have a large slow cooker (the biggest one I could find at the time!) that I use for making meals when I need to cook for 4-6 people or for me and my husband that will do us two nights. I don't have a big freezer so freezing is not an easy option for me.
Things have changed recently with my husband's job and he now eats lunch and dinner when he is at work, so I find I'm eating on my own a lot now.
I'm veggie and usually just fill the pot with tinned/dried beans & pulses plus some vegetables, etc. and let it all cook.
I did wonder about buying a much smaller slow cooker just for meals for one or two, but I thought I'd ask if posters use a big slower cooker to cook small portions?
Hope this makes sense - I seem to be rambling!Numpties...I'm surrounded by them...save me...:whistle:0
