  • Ummmm hot water and stardrops.... :o

I left a chicken and leek soup on medium and it became something of a stew with "baked on bits"....

Tomorrow I'm hoping to do mince, so off the the slowcooker thread for a recipe...
  • vegetable soup keeping warm until i get hungry

2 small onions, 2 small potatoes, bunch of carrots, heap of dried herbs, pepper. cooked on low for 8 hours, all whizzed up now i just have to hope it tastes as nice as it smells.
  • I've just bought my first slow cooker today after months of deliberation - half price £8.49 from Argos following a brilliant heads up from nopot2pin on the GC thread.

I'm just waiting for some milk to defrost then I'm going to break it in with a chocolate and orange rice pud from the recipe book that came with it..... only I don't have any oranges so I may have to slum it with a drop of orange oil and a splash of Cointreau (other orange based liquers are available....).

Can't wait to do the savoury stuff in it. The pork shanks and turkey legs sound a brilliant idea...

I have cooked a joint of bacon (for 2 hours) took it out, put aside, then cleaned out and chopped up carrots, onion, garlic, leeks, cauliflower, red onion, red pepper, for veggie soup.

Since getting my slow cooker a couple of weeks ago its been on the go non stop. I've done casseroles, and soups mostly, joint of bacon was the first time I cooked a whole piece of meat in it and its lovely and tender

Just want to say as a newbie I am absolutely addicted to MSE love reading all the posts on a daily basis.

  • I browned two packs of Tesco Healthy Living Mince and put it in the slow cooker on top of chopped onions, carrots, celery, mushrooms, crushed garlic; added seasoning, bay leaf, tin of tomatoes, and sloshed in just under a half bottle of left-over red wine. Later I will thicken if necessary, add some peas, and put some of it into individual ovenproof dishes and top with some mash and grated cheese and put under grill to brown. I'll freeze the rest for another day.
  • Mine has an experimental curry in ...
chicken, onion, garlic, pots, tin tomatoes, coconut milk, chili, mango powder, chili powder, apricots.
Smells good at the moment but we'll have to wait and see!! :-)

I used a drumstick to make a curry in the slowcooker and everyone ate it happily as I called it "chicken!" lol;)
    :j

I usually buy the 'diced turkey thigh' to make my curries and casseroles and always tell 'em it's chicken lol!

What they don't know, won't hurt 'em!!:rotfl: :rotfl:

Many thanks everybody for your postings - it's great to see what others are using their SC's for. Got some great ideas to have a go at as well  !
  • Fish pie tonight so didn't use the slow cooker for the meal but did have 3 chicken carcasses sitting in there making stock ready for soup tomorrow.

I'll probably freeze half the stock for another time.

  • Nothing today. Tomorrow I'm making turkey casserole (breast fillet from Netto £1.49).

I tried giving my OH and his younger daughter chicken thighs in a SC casserole and it was eyed with suspicion  , didn't go down well at all. You'd think I was trying to give them yak or something :D

    There's some strange people about!
