In my slow cooker today...

Just wondering what you're all cooking for tonight's evening meal using your Slow Cookers?
I've put a mix of chopped veggies (onion, 3 leeks, 4 carrots, half a swede, 3 sticks of celery) in the bottom of mine, a Turkey Drumstick (skinned) on the top, some soaked soup and broth mix and covered with boiling-water with 3 stock cubes (2 chicken/1 veg). Never done the drumstick thing before. I've scored through the membrane so that the hot water can penetrate through to the meat - not sure whether I should remove the drumstick after a while and try to get the meat off the bone. I'll keep checking on it and play it by ear, I think.
I'm sure that the veg and stock that comes off this should be useful for soup - even if I just remove the drumstick and serve the meat with potatoes and some more veg.
My local veggie van is due today - so I'll see if they've got anything really nice - maybe some fresh sprouts would go down well.0 -
Found some pork pieces at the back of the freezer last night bought before Xmas.. Left them out to defrost and will be making chilli pork for tea to night.
1lb pork, mushrooms, onion, green pepper, tin of kidney beans, tin of chopped tomatoes, tomato puree, vegetable stock cube and and chilli powder
Gonna have it with boiled rice but if you don't add much water and keep the sauce kind of thick its lovely in tortilla wraps tooHow does a brown cow give white milk, when it only eats green grass?0 -
Got some value chopped veg in there (carrots and broccoli), some chicken pieces, sweetcorn, cream of chicken soup and some herbs
Yesterday I had veggie sausage casserole but started it on high and forgot to turn it down low before I went to work for 9 hours!!! Bit of a mush in the end but OH likes his veg really soft :rolleyes:working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
Nothing today as we are going out for a meal (ds's birthday) but yesterday I made soya mince chilli which was lovely and warming after I spent some time in the playground getting cold! Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

I've got a vegetable curry cooking, vegetable stock, lentils, apple, onion, garlic, carrot, potato and curry powder, smells wonderful. Great with rice and a slice of home made (or bakery bought if not enough time) bread. Yum.Consider anything only don't cry!0

Ham shank with onions, potatoes, carrotss and dried peas that have been soaked overnight to make pea and ham soup.
DH has just come home early and tried some - needed some salt as the ham shank was not as salty as I had expected."This site is addictive!"

Those all sound delicious! I'm another one who does the ham shank bit, but I usually leave it in all night - will have to try doing it like this next time.
I've done minced beef for chilli - but never used pork - another one to experiment with!
I've check on my turkey drumstick and it was cooking nicely but could see that it was shrinking and revealing the sinews/tendons. Removed the whole thing and took the all the meat off the bone, cut into bite size pieces and put back in with the veggies. Now reduced to low. Will remove some of the stock to make gravy later and serve with mash, sprouts and some of the turkey meat. May thicken the remaining stock to make a turkey casserole or blitz for turkey and veg soup.
Quite pleased with this little experiment - especially as I appear to be getting good value for money out of that drumstick - £1.07 from Asda.0 -

I used a drumstick to make a curry in the slowcooker and everyone ate it happily as I called it "chicken!" lol;)"This site is addictive!"
