Just discovered our account had been hacked today, transactions in July for over £100 worth of vouchers used miles away in MK & Coventry (I live in Essex)

Spent some time on the phone with a very helpful lady who ensured the full amount will be put back in a few days & she also said it had happened to others.

As advised changed our email addy & password but will now check several times a week & will keep hard copies of vouchers until we have used them.

Result :) phonecall from CEO and points added on with immediate effect

There seems to be a few reports on facebook that some accounts are being accessed and vouchers being used to buy from the clothing website with delivery to store

Only realised when a paper statement arrived in the name of my wife and someone called D Holder. About £210 worth taken from the account. He/she changed my account name too.

No doubt they'll replace them - but to be honest Tesco can now go whistle. I've closed my credit card account with them and will shop at Costco in future

I don't believe for one moment they weren't hacked
The force is strong in this one!
  • I too have been hacked. The transactions date from 2nd August which, coincidentally, was the date I received my latest statement. They have acted very swiftly to clean me out of vouchers. I noticed that the name on my account had been changed but fortunately not my password.

When I phoned Tesco, the agent acted like she didn't believe me and said she'd have to refer it to someone else and they'd get back to me within 24 hours. As if she didn't know! However, she quickly phoned back and eventually agreed to credit the points I'd lost (over £300 of vouchers). But of course I have to wait until November to get them. She didn't mention that other people had the same happen to them or that the police are investigating, which would've reassured me a little. She said it was due to my email being hacked (as if it's MY fault), I've changed the passwords but don't believe this for a minute.

I will report it on Action Fraud just in case it will help police track down those responsible. Tesco needs to come clean on how this has happened so the victims of this fraud can take steps to protect themselves. Has anyone been hacked more than once?

i have heard of one case where the person got ttheir vouchers refunded only for then to be taken again the next mailing

.. 1st time they only changed password 2nd time they were advised to change both email and password
  • I just wanted to add another name to a growing list of victims!

Yesterday a clubcard statement arrived from Tesco addressed to our address but to a Mr J Smith!! It just cried out suspiscious, I mean the name got zero points for originalty!! No surprise then that our clubcard account
had been hacked and vouchers spent, not a lot £40. That is not the point. Why? It seems we are one of many! We have up to date internet security software. Well aware of avoiding phishing emails as we use IT in our jobs. Its frustrating and annoying as we have no idea how this has happened.
  • That seems to be popular name of choice. I changed my account name back and the website still said welcome mrs smith, this was clearly changed on the Tesco website by someone within Tesco as I couldn't change it on the welcome page. Took me a week to get Tesco to do it after I told them repeatedly it was a web page change not something I could personally do
  • Hi, I am not sure if this helps, but you can manage your clubcard account online, meaning that you won't be receiving your vouchers through the post, and you can print them out.
Perhaps it's worth to replace your clubcard with a new one (different number) and create a new online account?
I appreciate how painful and distressing the whole experience can be; we had mail stolen from our letter boxes with case of identity fraud (people had credit cards opened under their names, as well as mobile phone contracts and loan applications). I don't receive any paper bill or bank statement through the post, but based on what you say, even online accounts are no longer safe? :(

Yes, this is exactly what the fraudsters are doing, logging into people's online accounts, printing off the vouchers, printing off a temporary card to go with them, then going shopping.

What Tesco are failing to address is how so many accounts are getting hacked into, especially as those involved haven't had any other online accounts hacked, and they have failed to disable the facility to print a temporary card.
