Right, today is the day to get a grip on eating and exercise. I've just weighed and its not good , although I think some of it is water retention as its hormone time for me and will hopefullly drain away over the next few days.
Either way, I feel swollen and bloated and have definitely overindulged.:o

Before Xmas I'd managed to gain a lb in the run up and it looks like a few more have crept on (water or not) so its time to tackle it before it gets out of hand. Ideally, I'd like to lose another 7lbs - the ones that have stealthily arrived and a few more - I'd then be the lightest I've even been as an adult. But I want to do it properly, like I did before, with sensible food, plenty of exercise and using www.myfitnesspal.com

So, I'm off to the shops this morning to get some nice fruit and veg, will walk the dog on a nice long route and hopefully go swimming (no-one answering the phone there so I'm hoping its not shut).
The Xmas goodies are going in a carrier bag in the attic - sellotaped shut - and will be taken in to school when I'm back.

Ladies (and gents) - feel free to join the Woofer boot camp! If I wait until after New Year I'll do even more damage:rotfl:

Evening everyone and high to the newbies  its the end of a very long day and I am so pleased to have plenty of nice cold beer in the fridge :D:D

Sorry to hear your weigh in wasn't too good this morning woofer! I'm loving the idea of putting all the xmas goodies in the attic so I don't eat it but I can't fit through the trap door to get in mine :o :rotfl:

I do wish you luck though and hope you manage to stick to your new regime through new year x

I'm going to update my first post over the weekend with a list of names and losses as suggested by HH:

    pm2326 - Loss for Dec = 0lb, total 0lb

As we all appear to be getting weighed at different times of the week/month it will be easier for me to update the list if I do it on the 1st of the month. so if we cold all post our total weight loss for the month either on the last day or on the 1st in big bold red writing it would be great....

Don't forget though we are all nosey so we need to keep telling each other about any losses or gains throughout the month so we can join in your celebrations...or offer you a huge shoulder to cry on :D

I've been counting up the change (10's, 5's, 2's and 1p's) I had stored in an old Quality Street jar, never tried very hard at filling it, just added the change every now and then when I felt the urge. I have a grand total of £40....it's not a lot but better than a slap in the face :p

I've binned the old jar...it reminded me too much of the lovely sweeties that used to be inside :rotfl:and my new savings tub is a faux black leather hat box thing I got from a cheap shop when I was decorating the living room...it's now positioned right next to the tv so I can't forget to add to it. I've decided to save 20p's & 50p's this time.

Anyone know how many bags of coins I can take to Natwest in one go? I will be adding it straight to my savings account with them, and I'll eventually use this account to pay off the overdraft

Hi happydaddy, feel free to share your story with us..that's what we are here for :)

Flumpkin I've just noticed your comment about only swimming as you have a dodgy knee...I have a problem with my knee joints as the left one in particular is wearing away too quick, was told at 19 that I will need a replacement knee by time I'm 50 :(

anyhow, I find the gym is ok aslong as I dont try and run on the treadmill, I just walk on a steep incline for 20-30 mins at a good pace.
  • Not sure how you do the quotey thing

About the gym and knee I guess that has been my 'excuse' for the last part of the year. I joined the gym on off peak as cheaper but work Mon-Fri. Some days I can nip in for a swim after work (finish at 3 so have an hour if I have made end of school arrangements for dd who is 11) and can go at weekend but ONLY 3 weeks in 6 as I do 'on-call' at work. Justification when I signed up was I would use gym on my on call weeks as obviously I can't have mobile in pool but can take it into gym. I had my induction but it turned out she was a personal trainer wanting £20 a session  - they don't do inductions apparently so I am at a loss what to 'do' in gym... I have half heartedly used bike and cross trainer. Feel embarrassed by my size and lack of fitness... any tips gratefully received ... should bite bullet as paying for it and know it will help. Walking sounds like a good idea :) thanks - see knew joining you guys was a good idea!!

Not sure on number of bags to Natwest... Nationwide only allow 2 at a time, but Derbyshire let me take what I like. I think sometimes depends on branch too?

Totally get where you are coming from happy daddy - want to be fitter and healthier for family too (and well as for me). DD starting to understand more about health and fitness and know she would love me to be fitter.

Blue_eyed_girl - my first normal day is going to be 2nd Jan too - also first day at SW. Not at all jealous Dolly! I'm actually back in work NYE but have NYD off :) HD 2208 - good idea to set a target debt to tackle. I have used the snowball calculator but am actually going to hit my smaller, catalogue first to get one under my belt.

Love your idea Woofer with Christmas goodies. We have such a pile of stuff unopened - just suggested to dh that he takes it in to work for his birthday in Jan rather than spend money on cakes :):) hey I am getting the hang of this :j

Lovely to 'meet' so many others starting on the same journey...

    love flump xx
    .
  • Thanks will do.

Gonna start off with a nice long lie tomorrow!

    Dxxx
  • Hey flump,
Don't be put off my gym equipment or feelign you are not 'fit' enough.....when in the gym you are doing something positive for you and no one can ever critisice that. All gyms should provide an induction, but if you feel they are not supportive, search online for programme ideas - there are loads of them and to build up your confidence, press quick start amd increase speed as you feel comfortable, the machines are not difficult to use & generally speaking people are realy helpful.
Looking forward to bettering myself in 2013 and feels real good to have other like minded people, lets hope the motivation keeps up :-)
Off to bed now as its getting late, night night all

    Morning

The gym I use is very good and do full inductions. I also signed up for a fitness assessment so every 6-8 weeks I get my fitness assessed and they set a plan for me to follow in the gym. They can obviously see I'm unfit and fat but they dont expect me to do anything ridiculous or set targets I cant reach..all they said was if you can exercise and talk at the same time, you aint working hard enough!

Dont know if it will help anyone but the first plan was very basic and slow paced (i'm now on plan 2):

5 mins warm up - walking on treadmill at normal pace, no holding on to bars
10 -15 mins - walking on treadmill, incline 5, fast walk (mine was about 3.1) again no holding on to bars
    10 -15 mins - level 1 on stepper
3 mins cool down on either machine
    2 x 15 sit ups
    stretches

When I started the plan I thought I was going to die! I couldn't do the full 10 mins on the machines and had to stop half way through coz my legs and chest hurt so much :( but by the end of the first 6 weeks I had actually increased the length of time spent on both machines and increased the incline on the treadmill :T

Off to see if I can find out how much Natwest will let me deposit in change xxx
  • Morning all

With BEG on starting 2nd Jan

Will post a weekly update (fine to just update your front page monthly and thank you!)

PM when you asked. Just been thinking - if you could achieve 1 thing in 2013 what would it be? Mine’s to get fitter. Weight loss will be a bonus by product. Usually the key to my loss is exercise. Am combining this with a Paul McKenna approach. Worth a try I guess. Looks like loads of us have cats, dodgy knees and a penchant for swimming!

PM someone gave me a tip with coins. Don’t use those coinmaster sorters in supermarkets as they cream off commission. Mr Bloater suggested using the self serve tills in supermarkets and use the coins to pay for your shopping.

Rachy I need to loose a significant amount too. 2lb a week usually considered a reasonable loss. If that could be kept up for a whole year that’s 7 stone 2lb!

WelshWoofer, mega impressed at the fitness aim. Also impressed you started early.

Happy Daddy is 11-12-13 a significant day? What the strategy to clear the debt?

Dolly am jealous of your break from work

HD good to have a goal in mind, will be a great motivator.
