Hi everyone

As the title of my diary suggests, I'm a big girl and I have 2 plans for 2013, to lose 1lb's and £1's. I'm hoping writing a diary will help keep me on the road to success....

Ok, about me....I'm 38, a size 22 and 5 stone overweight. Believe it or not, I've been going to the gym 5 days a week for the last 15 weeks and I don't leave until I could enter a wet t-shirt competition and win :T but while the fat is moving around, the weight aint going down :(

I'm also just under £11k in debt. I have 5 unsecured loans, 1 credit card, 1 catalogue and an overdraft.

challenge number 1....to lose the extra weight and fit into a size 14 party dress by 11/12/13!

challenge number 2....to lose as many £1's off the debts by 11/12/13!

For anyone who's still reading this, I'll give you a bit of background to my story....

I live alone with 2 cats, they are brother and sister but you wouldn't think it...she's always on my bed asleep and you can only stroke her when she wants attention or else she will take your fingers off with one swipe of her paw  he on the other hand is a mischevious bugga and acts like a kitten for 90% of the day, he also won't sleep unless he's on the settee next to me.

I have an interest only mortgage which I currently overpay to make a small reduction to the capital balance. I intend to increase this overpayment yearly by whatever I can afford.

I have a steady job and low outgoings apart from the debts...the loans and cards were used to pay for home improvements as the place was falling down around me...the work was all finished 2 weeks ago and it's like living in a show room at the minute :rotfl::rotfl:

I haven't had a man in my life for a few years now as the last one nearly destroyed me and it's soooo much easier not having to make an effort...its a long story but ex is still in my life and has no intention of leaving me alone as 'i'm the only person who understands him and he needs me'...his words not mine

So how am I going to start working on my challenges?....by taking one day at a time and not getting stressed about life if it doesn't go to plan every day..:)

First thing to plan is my gym sessions this week. I use the gym near work which is 20 mile away. There's usually no excuse not to go as I have to go to work anyway...but this week I have 2 work nights out planned which means having to take 3 sets of clothes with me...ie wear gym stuff to get there, work gear to change into and then party gear...also only have one set of gym gear so would have to take that stuff with me on the night out :rotfl::rotfl:so have decided i'm going to miss gym on tuesday and friday..well it is xmas!

Other than that I also get paid this week and I did a little bit of overtime in November so hopefully I can pay £100 off one of the debts before xmas...need to see what I spend on my nights out first.

whoa this is a long first post....will leave it there for now and update in a few days xx

  • Hi PM

I'm not usually the first person to post on a diary but I saw yours and couldn't resist! I'm not very useful with practical advice though sadly.

I just wanted to say that I am similar to you so will be following your fortunes. I needed to lose 3 and a half stone in August, and have now lost 2, so getting there slowly but surely! I also owed £10,500 at my LBM, but again am taking the slow and steady wins the race approach. If I can make any suggestions for you along the way I will certainly try. :D Since watching my pennies, the amount spent on chocolate bars is through the floor, which is a real positive.

I also have a ex issues, but my advice there should probably be ignored! :rotfl:

    Good luck.

    Me again!

Thanks for the comments Fudge & Beanie, hope my long opening post didn't bore you too much xx

Was thinking last night while lying in bed that I really need to start planning ahead and set measurable objectives to help me reach my goals. These need to be easily acheivable, need minimum effort so that I dont give up at the first hurdle and can be done on a week by week basis.

These are the ones I've come up with so far...

    1) I've decided to keep a savings pot for my party dress fund...if or should I say WHEN I reach my weight goal in 2013 I want to be able to afford the best fitting dress I can find, it's going to be my reward for banning all the nice foodie things from my house for 12 months! Plus I'll need a new hairdo, new posh undies, shoes, handbag, jewellery and money to spend to go with the dress..:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    2) I have a balance of £189 on my catalogue and it's also on the highest interest rate so I'm going to tackle that one first...if I can't manage to pay it all off using this months pay it'll definately be paid off by end of January.

    3) I've had a look in my cupboards and freezer and I don't really need anything apart from a couple of packs of cat food. I get paid tomorrow and if I order a shop online I'm going to buy stuff I don't need so I'm thinking I may just get the cat food at the weekend when I need fresh stuff like milk etc and use this chance to run the freezer down and defrost it as it could do with a good clean.

Normally spend about £80 a month on shopping so I could use that for something else...:D
