Going to set up 2 x £1 charity DDs on each account - it's free money, might as well give something back.

Here's some I've found so far that will take £1 direct debits:

    https://www2.amnesty.org.uk/giving/donate/give-monthly

    http://www.unicef.org.uk/Donate/give-monthly/

Very laudable and hats off to you for that....but can't see much point to be honest, a good percentage of that £1 a month will end up in fees and the organisations have quite high management/admin costs, and by the time you've paid £2 to charity you will only have £3 left.

To be honest I'm just going to move a couple of my fixed direct debits to these accounts and set up a standing order from my current account to cover the exact amount. Failing that it will be 6 savings accounts with direct debits set up for £1 each, won't miss that from the current account a month and that will almost seem like an extra £72 reward a year making a grand total of £252 a year for very little effort

Unfortunately my rent includes all bills, so I don't have many DDs I can shift around. Which would mean going down the path of additional savings accounts that accept DDs.

£3 vs £5 is the difference between a half pint and a pint for me. If even after taking off overheads, a charity has enough money to inoculate a kid, or provide some sheep food to a farmer, it's half a pint well spent :)

Don't forget to use Gift Aid.

  • Would a DD to pay my Halifax Clarity Reward credit card be allowed or would this be considered "internal"?

    Thanks for any advice.

There is nothing in the notification of the change to suggest that this would pose any problem.

You'd need to make sure you used the card each and every month, so there was something to be "paid".

I can't be bothered to set up new savings accounts, so my question is: was there anything in the Lloyds 4% T&Cs that said you had to keep those specific DDs for the life of the 4% offer?

I want to switch one of the Lloyds ones to Halifax, as it does get paid every month, but will that affect my 4% Vantage? I can set up a Paypal DD back on Lloyds but that may never be used.
