Spoke to a chap today, he asked if he HAD to use the new website, i said at this point in time, I don't believe it is mandatory BUT he had better use an alternative like Indeed or totaljobs. He was more than happy, I was more than happy with him using alternative sites, we were both happy, job done.

Or maybe the above story was all in my head, dreamt it up while sweeping or maybe when i was playing the role of the little old lady receptionist

I suggest you take time to think before you try and put down people on this thread who are trying to cope and understand what the goverment and brainwashed morons like you are doing to us.

Would you rather the Government left you alone? How long do you think it would take till you're on the streets if the Ebil Government left you alone? Do you think JSA will fall from the sky like mana? :A

Seriously though, we're all adults, we shouldn't be attacking people personally, restraint is a good quality to add to our CV :p

Redeye - nobody on here can sanction you, or tell you you can't be. Ignore people telling you what to do - they won't be there when you sign on. You just have to use the site to jobsearch and show you have - nothing else.

It has been my experience in life that there are a whole load of people who will sit around telling you what you ought to do, and what they would tell them if they were there. They never are and they never do. And if they are there, they are at the back of the room and never open their mouths. If John539 and/or jobseeking help want to tell their advisors that they refuse to use the site, them let them. That is their choice. That is no reason why you should.
I know that, that is the reason why I research before looking a fool

They are not interested in finding you employment any more.

Absolutely agree with that. Neither me or the wife have needed benefits/jobcenters for years. I recently bought a house in a new area in preparation for me moving with work - and the wife moved in this summer with the kids. She had to give up her job in our old location.

She spend 3 months looking for suitable work (around the kids, and she doesnt drive either) with no luck. She went to the "jobcenter" for some help finding suitable work - you know pointers, advice, possible advertised jobs. all they did was give her some websites to look on - all of which she was already looking on (and wouldnt have been any use if she had no internet - which Im guessing some poor on benefits dont have).

They made her go to 3 interviews - still providing no help - and then got really snotty when she rang to cancel her 4th due to our 9 year old being sent home from school with a temperature (how od you attend, with no family in the area, recently moved so no friends, cant drive and a sick child). They told her shed be sanctioned - and she asked how. They said "well remove your benefits" - to which she replied "anything else". They said "no - isnt that enough" - at which point she told them she didnt get any benefits - she only came for help finding a job. Silence ensued - followed by a "well you need to turn up" and the call ended.

Ultimately I made a formal complaint, and my wife signed herself off.

Strikes me, if you not trying to claim benefits - they really couldnt give a damn, which (to my mind) is NOT the point of a jobcenter. They should be there with help finding work whether you need handouts or not - and they arnt. How much is down to pressure to reduce the benefits bill, or meeting targets of "people off benefits" I dont know - but from someone whos paid a LOT of tax over the last 20 years, I was highly dissapointed (well fuming in fact) by the general incompetance and "dont care" attitude of the JC+ staff.
  • I will add - on her 3rd visit (the one befoer the cancellation), her advisor calmly sat her down and explained she didnt qualify for any benefits. My wife said "er - I didnt ask for any. I know I dont qualify and I didnt want any - your a job center, I came for help finding work". This statement was met with a confused look and awkward "errs".

I wanted to pay a budgeting loan off, a few years back. I was told by the information line i rang before travelling to the JC that I could just pay the money at the JC.
When I arrived the adviser at the desk made me ring up someone else to ask if that adviser could take the money. The advisers are not allowed to interact with the calls or speak to the people themselves.
Again I was told this would be no problem so I went back to the desk and told the adviser that, yes, she could accept my payment.
She then, without question or verification, agreed and proceeded to take the money.
They are their own worst enemies IMO.

Just a quick question which I'm hoping someone can help me with. Apologies if it's already been answered, don't have time to read the full thread. I signed up for UJM but haven't ticked 'that' box. When I last went to sign on my adviser asked me for a copy of my Gateway ID, in case I lose it.

Can I, in so many words tell him to sod off? What would be best to say?

I trust myself a lot more to look after my own information, than I trust them to look after it. I also don't believe that's the reason they want the number.
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.

Tell him no. Do not give them anything, he has no right at all to ask for your personal Gateway ID.
