If you have a Chip and Signature iZettle reader then the issue with Visa is still there.

The new Chip and Pin reader means you can take Visa card payments in the same way as other card payments, i.e. via the reader.

I am only a small business but with two people on a stall at dog shows it's far easier to have two readers than have to keep passing one back and forth. We can both take payments at the same time.

Ah thanks. That has clarified it.

Have just ordered the Chip & Pin from iZettle via the Santander Business Banking link. Santander will refund the full cost of the reader following the first transaction completed using the reader.
See this page for details of the offer.

Just ensure it is a Business bank account. I had a Santander personal account, and a business account with a Santander Group bank and neither were eligible.
  • Do any of you know if Credit Card payments processed via iZettle are subject to Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act? I am just wondering if this service is similar to PayPal, in the sense that it has large charges but eliminates any consumer protection provided by Section 75. Also, it seems to me that most people on this thread seem to prefer the WorldPay offering (who have the added benefit of allowing cardholder not present transactions), and I wonder if they give the consumer section 75 protection or not.

Obvioulsy this query is in relation to transactions where the card payment is over £100, just in case anyone decides to mention it.

I think that would be a question to ask the companies direct. Google has proved useful to me in the past too.

The charge of 2.75% per transaction seems pretty standard from my research, in fact some payment companies charge more.

Worldpay offer cardholder not present but no extra card reader.
iZettle may not offer the former but you can buy as many card readers as you need.

So it's down to your business needs and there are many other options for cardholder not present. :)

Of course they are. The procssing of the payment is irrelevant. Its no different to paying in a shop. Its just a wireless transaction, that's all.

Anyone know if these mobile systems incur the annual PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) compliance costs that made me hand back my Streamline system a few years back? Think it was just under £100 per year

I use WorldPay Zinc (and its previous incarnation), and haven't had any requirement to go through compliance in 18 months or so. There are other controls in place, and you cannot run more than £20k or so of payments in a year, so fraud opportunities are more limited.

If it looks interesting and you choose the WorldPay Zinc route (it's pretty popular here), there's a thread in the referrals forum which may save you a tenner or so (promotions vary). I've had a few people PM for referrals and they all seem to leave happy, so just bear it in mind.
  • Can anyone tell me if these devices can work solely on wifi through a tablet instead of mobile signal. I have a small rural craft studio which I sell my work from and would like to be able to take card payments. Izettle etc seem like affordable options but I have no mobile reception, just internet wifi, would this work?!

It'll work fine through WiFi alone.

Providing the app for whatever one you go for is compatible with your tablet.

Best to see if you can download it on whatever tablet you have, before buying the little device.
