They'll all work just fine with wifi - they just need a data connection of some sort (even 2G!)
  • Have only just registered on the forum after having been a regular visitor for many years. The choice between World Pay Zinc or iZettle is proving very difficult for me and has just become even more so.

iZettle is worrying because of their not having phone support and seeming to have a poor reputation for communication.
If there was a problem with a payment not going through to my bank will I be able to resolve the matter?

A friend has been with iZettle for a few months and has not had any problem with it's use or payments being made. But what if?
Apparently if I register via him we both get £10. Need to check this out.

Ok £10 is not really a deal breaker in choosing iZettle but maybe this is.....I was in Costco in Farnborough, Hants the other day doing a very quick shop when I noticed they were selling the iZettle. I didn't have time to go into detail with the guy on the stand but it seemed to be on sale at about £49, with for executive members a £70 voucher to use in store.

If that is true it's a heck of a dilemma. On the one hand the World Pay Zinc seems the more reliable with better support and probably a more business like machine but the iZettle on the possible Costco deal beats it cost wise.

I am going to Costco now to check on the details and terms and conditions and will report later.

There's a referrer thread for Worldpay Zinc on this site (under referrers forum), where you can get £10 off the handset direct from WorldPay.

What I would say is the support on WPZ (when I've used it) has been extremely good - UK call centre and they can sort most problems on the spot (not had much call to need it, but just fyi). Question is - is saving £20 now the best factor for deciding on a long-term relationship with real money involved?
  • Thanks Paddyprg for your response and you certainly make a valid point.
Have just returned from Costco and the deal is not quite as the guy on the stand was saying. The iZettle is priced at £47.98 and rather than it being a £70 voucher to spend in store, as he stated previously, it is actually commission free on iZettle transactions to a value of £70 commission. I think I may have seen somewhere that there was a standard offer of 3 months free commission. Will check this.
I also need to check if there is a minimum commission fee on either iZettle or World Pay to work out how much in transactions I could take without incurring commission charges.
Like you I do like WPZ support rather than iZ.

If it helps, WPZ is 2.75% flat rate for debit and credit cards with no minimum requirement - take £300 this month, nothing the next, and you only pay on what you actually put through the system (they also have a tariff at 1.95% with different terms - I think there's a small fee). I imagine the iZ deal is similar, but with checking as you say! Will you do £2,500 of cards business within the promotional period to benefit from £70 of free commission? If you are doing that level of card business regularly, there may be better options for you like going onto the small monthly charge/lower rate tariffs. Of course you can change tariff mid contact as the business grows anyway.
  • Thanks for your help paddyrg. There seems to be no time limit on using the £70 commission and after speaking to a few izettle users they say that although there is no telephone support they usually get a response to their email within 2 - 3 hours. Maybe living dangerously but have bought the izettle. Thanks again.

    Hi all

I'm a general builder of nearly 20 years and work from recommendation. I thought izettle would be easier for some of my elderly customers who do not do internet banking, I did not have question ask about taken payment via my smart phone as I was trusted by my customers.
I had fitted a new Kitchen and had taken a payment for all the new unites and appliances which went through ok, apart from slow transaction to my account.
At completion of works I had taken a 2nd payment but it flagged up at izettle that it was from the same card,so this lead to a investigation of fraud, so money was frozen until I proved different,
apparently I had broken their Terms and Condition ? ( hope you have all read these ) You can NOT take partial payments for a single product, this means deposits.etc etc.....
So izettle is not ideal for all business, so be aware
  • I am a registered iZettle user. I am new to the company and have a pro unit. After stumbling across this thread I was quite concerned I had chosen the right company to take my card payments. This was one of two companies recommended by my bank. So I email iZettle to ask the question. Were we allowed to take deposits? I emailed after closing time. The following day I got an automated email say I could now call their helpline if I wanted to rather than waiting for an email response. I rang the number supplied and got though in less than 30 seconds. They looked up my email and explained that there should be no problem in taking deposits even if it is from the same card on two consecutive days. I asked about taking card payments remotely and was informed they had received a lot of requests for this functionality. They are working on a solution and it should be available reasonably soon. They have to make sure they comply with all the regulations. I hope this helps.
