Does anybody use iZettle for taking payments ?

Just thought I'd add a note to say I've been considering iZettle but after reading this thread (almost in its entirety!) I have just signed up to WorldPay Zinc!
It's is much more comprehensive than iZettle and the chip and pin option makes it much more professional (I really didn't like the 'text the customer' carry-on that iZettle had with Visa!).
Also worth noting that the card reader is only £59.99 instead of £99 like iZettle so made a saving already!
Thanks guys!TescoMum :-)

Hi folks,
Looking around for a cheap option without contracts and high costs and seen this thread.
Since it's an older thread, I wonder if there any more machines out that you know of, which compete and would be worthy of checking out?
If not, I wonder if anyone would be kind enough to give me a referral to get a better price for one of these units? (if the offer is still running)
I run a small Restaurant/Takeaway and can't afford these monthly rentals with high cost merchant solutions right now but would like to be able to offer the card facility if not too expensive.
Many thanks in advance0 -
Hi Ha33y
I looked at finding a second hand or generic unit for transactions. It is not worth the risk. The generic machines don't work with iZettle anyway. I plumped for Zinc because it takes VISA (iZettle doesn't without a lot of faff.). The machine is well made and worth the money. Secondly customers don't think twice about putting a code into it. That is an important point. I would buy the Zinc machine and then get discounts on it's cost.
If you want to be referred you can use my discount code :FR857542 Just quote that code number when signing up for the first time and buying the Chip Pin Machine - the discount will be applied. Any questions, drop me a PM.
PS the initial outlay is worth it for the increased professionalism the Zinc shows to customers, plus you can get further discounts if you refer. Over the first 5 months it could pay for itself, even though it might be used only a few times a week.0 -
Hi again peeps
looking into the WorldPay Zinc and seems good but just worried about any kind of tie up. I know it is a Pay as You go thing but can't help worrying that there will be a contract in there somewhere. If I go for it and I decide I don't want to use it any more for any reason, am I legally bound to do so, or still held accountable for some costs?
Sorry for my silly questions folks but I am new to all this and don't wanna make a silly mistake at the beginning of my new business that could effectively ruin me. Just looking at their T&C's they keep mentioning 'contract' and the length of it etc ...worrying stuff.
Any help and advise from someone who knows will be very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.0 -
Hi again Ha33y,
There is no contract. No ties. the only upfront outlay you make is for the machine. The % cut is by a per transaction basis… if you don't touch it, it won't cost you a penny. My wife used Zinc for selling her art. She used it a few times, but hasn't in the last two months… other things to do than go to art fairs. Zinc is not a problem at all. we don't get statements unless we use it, and there is no contract to use it, or pay. It is very user friendly and the online data of your transactions are simple and transparent. The cost of the machine was repaid by referrals to friends.0 -
I am indebted to you my friend.
Thank you for your help and advice.
Best regards to you and your good lady

I'm concerned that posters still think iZettle is £99 per card reader and a faff for taking Visa payments.
I have been researching mobile card payments for the last few weeks and finally went with iZettle.
I looked at Worldpay Zinc and you can only have one card reader per account with them. With iZettle you can order additional card readers. This is great for me as as I run a dog show stall and it means any staff can take payments with a reader paired with their own phone, at the same time as I'm taking a payment too, we don't have to keep passing the reader and my phone back and forth.
I also didn't like Worldpay Zinc's pricing structure, I could pay £12.99 per month for 'all you can eat' but if I did a big show and suddenly took over £1,000 in one month they could switch me back to PAYG! So it's not really 'all you can eat'.
Here's how the Worldpay Zinc pricing structure actually pans out, if I've got my figures right:
2.75% - £472 pcm = fees totalling £12.98
1.95% - £359 pcm = fees of £7.00 + £5.99 = £12.99
All you can eat - up to £1,000 pcm for fee of £12.99
Takings of £1,001 pcm at 2.75% = £27.52 (same as iZettle would be regardless of 'plan')
So up to takings of £472 pcm you're better off with the 2.75% plan. From there up to £1,000 you may as well have the all you can eat plan. This makes the 1.95% plan a money making option as it appears a good deal.
With iZettle it's kept simple with a sliding scale, so you know where you are.
The only downside is that iZettle doesn't allow 'customer not present' transactions, whereas Worldpay Zinc does. That's easy to workaround though, PayPal or Barclays Pingit anyone?
So, back to my first paragraph!
The iZettle card reader is now cheaper than Worldpay Zinc's. The latter is £59.99 + VAT. The former is £59.99 incl VAT. If you sign up through Huddblebuy you can also get £10 off the iZettle card reader.
The best bit - iZettle can now take Visa debit payments without the faff of the chip and signature days.
I've even found the perfect sized neoprene carry case for my iZettle card reader. So I am one happy bunny heading into show season.

HiMyNameIsLauren wrote: »Fully concur with Dave - depending on what industry you're in and the type of customer you have, you should be very wary about using iZettle. "Wait, you want me to give you my card and you're going to connect it to your phone" - you wouldn't believe how many times I've had this from my customers, which is very disheartening as I was trialing it to get away from using a card processing company (cardsave) that's just too expensive for me. But, turns out when compared to iZettle, I'm getting more transactions with a professional looking terminal.
it seems that people are conditioned to entering card details into a "professional" terminal but not a mobile phone.
Both technologies can be hacked, but we just assume the professioanl terminal is safer than a mobile handset addon.
We looked at using izettle bit it seemed to be far to convuleted for b2b. You want transactiosn to go through fast and easy, last thing you want to do is have to spend a minute processing a payment. With izettle you also need to have a receipt printer if you want to hand a receipt there and then.0 -
The Chip & Pin card reader from iZettle does not attach to a mobile phone, it interacts wirelessly. So the customer can hold the reader, put their card and pin number in directly and then remove the card. Just like in a shop!
The only time a customer would need to enter anything directly into a mobile phone or tablet is to type their email address for an emailed receipt.
I haven't seen a mobile card reader that prints as well. It wouldn't be mobile then as it would be too bulky! They all need separate mobile printers.
I did a test transaction on my iZettle reader - fast and easy. No different to a static terminal in a shop. When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN
